I don't know what the purpose was. It was a completely brand new building (the very first semester anyone had lived there) and everything was awesome.

...Except for the internet. As to why they capped it, I have no idea.

People are still using dial-up? What is the matter with you?

Umm....broadband is about ten times more expensive here than the US? And I'm not the bill payer in this house.

It is really that expensive? $400 a month sounds a bit steep to me.

Maybe its because the value of our dollar is falling into the crapper?

Yeah, $400 is now something like 2 yen.

No wonder howlrunner moved here to cash in his Singaporese fortune.

Well, that was a bit of exaggeration. I don't know what you pay for your broadband. True unlimited (no data limits or shaping) is still very expensive though.

It's just dropped in price quite a lot however. Perhaps I won't be a dialup user for much longer :)

Ah, I pay around $40 a month for cable. I'm not sure what the up/down caps are, but its certanly not unlimited.

ADSL here in Australia is getting cheaper, you can get 1.5Mbps/256k and 20GB download for about A$50 per month here. Provided you live in a metro area, at any rate.

I still love my cable, though. *hugs coaxial line*

Depending on what time of day I check, Verizon offers me service.

The site said connection speeds ranging from 1.5 Mbps/384 Kbps.Upwards of 768Kbps, based on where I am and if my line requirments are met. Shouldn't be a problem, they keep calling and asking us to switch to their broadband.
    I keep saying yes.

    *Sighs*

I'm really screwed. I'm paying about $90+ a month for my DSL. That's about $60 for the dsl/net connection and some $30 odd bucks for the telephone line rental. It absolutely sucks because there is only one Telco in my neck of the woods and they have a pretty solid monopoly. Whats sucks even more is that Verizon OWNS said telco, and they aren't offering the stateside offers for the DSL service! Sometimes it sucks to be living in the uncivilized tropics.
