Zachary John Wilkin! Born December 15, 2004, at 6:33 PM. 8 lb 1 oz, 20 1/2 inches long. He has a 14 inch head, which is on the high-side of normal. Big brain!

Mother is doing quite well. She had a c-section, so is in Virginia Hospital Center for a few more days but is recovering better than expected. She was on solid food today and was walking around like it was no big deal.

Baby is wonderful! 20 digits in all the right places. He is quite a calm baby - only cried twice today for about five minutes each. The Force must be with him! Just looking and reaching and being. He looks like his mother, but has his father's hands.

Father is doing well. I had a final today and was thankful that I didn't have to delay it. I have one more left on Saturday, but need to study for it tomorrow. I will be spending as little time as I possibly can away from the hospital and mom so that I can support her in her painful time.

So how is life after baby now?

Great! We are so enjoying our little one. I am doing some catching-up on various things right now (email, etc.) while Christa and Zach catch some sleep. Christa usually has the first series (feeding, changing, etc.) with Zach in the wee-small-hours. I take the second series and we build in some extra sleeping time.

One thing that I have to say: I don't know how single mothers do it. I had a period today where we were preparing to go out, Zach wanted to eat, I was hungry and Christa was getting ready. Obviously, my eating took the back seat, but it really hit home just how much there is to do with a baby. Schedules be damned, they must have what they must have now.

I wouldn't change it for the world, though!

 

How do single mom's do it? We just do, sometimes to the ends of our sanity but regardless the baby/child most come first and even if that means I don't get to go out with friends or I can't buy something for myself, well so be it since my attitude has always been the following:

That baby/child didn't ask to be borne into this world and since this one is mine and I made that choice, then it is my duty to care and love this child.

I'm so sorry I missed seeing you guys last night! Next time you're on the way to CVS, come back and our guest puppy/maniac will be swiftly crated if need be!
