We've had a lot of rain since we got to Kalgoorlie and I can't help thinking to myself - they built a pipeline to bring water here?.

    Enjoy!

I assume you've got a multi-region player. I'm getting one soon (in addition to the two DVD drives we have in our PCs) and my #1 criteria is multi-region. I already plan on ordering a few DVDs that are either region 1 only or region 2 only. In case you didn't already know, we're on region 4 here.

    yeah, the car sucks!

and i have got a multi region player, well, three if you include the one i brought with me! :p

and I'm staying in "Sandcastles" little apartment type thingies literally on the beach.

be careful buying region 1 DVDs, there have been some issues playing them in PAL regions (hence why i don't buy region 1).

Here's why: Region 1 DVDs are in the american NTSC format (which is 30 frames per second), region 2 and 4 are in PAL format (25 frames per second).

now, although most TVs can play either PAL or NTSC signals, the sound on a DVD is made to match the picture because, over a 90 minute picture, the sound will have to be adjusted to fit.

SO, when you play an NTSC DVD on a PAL system, the sound and picture will go out of sync, however slightly. in extreme cases, the sound has been known to slip by 1-2 seconds.

    just food for thought.

    anyway,

Are you implying that the US rushed out a TV standard that wasn't superior to the one everyone else waited for? ;)

What, other than sit on the net all day long and complain that there is nothing to do? :p
(that wasn't a dig at you, more everyone else on here)...

It really depends on what you are into doing. But no, there isn't an awful lot to do in Perth.

Well then, that leaves you with going to a movie, walking around Perth (or if you actually want somewhere decent to go, come to Fremantle)... Or going and seeing another movie. And maybe some more movies...

If I was still in Perth I could point you to the best night spots, depending on what you're in to. Can't help out though. The beaches here are better than most of the other beaches I've seen in our country (and I've seen a lot of the supposedly best ones on the east coast). If you want good views for photos, the two best spots would be either Kings Park, or the South Perth river shore. Night or day the view's good in both spots and also (in my opinion) better than the views in our country's other capital cities.
