Since we've already seen the Mark I and Mark III armors I wonder how long before we see the Mark II version?

I knew that Stane was in this, but they are jumping straight to the Iron Monger? My expectations just went UP! I was worried they were going to give the Mandarin too much emphasis.

    Iron Man Set Visit

    [image=http://www.vh1.com/shared/promoimages/movies/i/iron_man/set_visit_070530/281x211.jpg]

PLAYA VISTA, California ? He has waged war on terrorists, alien dragons and Soviet supersoldiers alike. He's traveled to battlefields on Earth and beyond and been near death too many times to count. And now, Iron Man is getting his own movie.

And what a movie it's shaping up to be.

MTV News visited the set of the über-secretive superhero flick Wednesday, getting an eyeful of the elaborate sets, high-powered stars and the iconic Iron Man mask itself. If you're a geek, you know how big this is. If you're a popcorn-lover who digs movies like the "Spider-Man" and "X-Men" flicks, trust us: This is the one you'll be dying to see when it opens May 2, 2008.

"I've always been a big fan of comics ? only Marvel comics actually, strangely," grins Robert Downey Jr., explaining what motivation an Oscar-nominated actor has to join the ranks of illustrated leading men like Tobey Maguire and Hugh Jackman. "I always felt like Tony Stark was one of the great characters."

These days, Downey is living out a childhood fantasy by immersing himself in that character. Transformed by a sharp suit, purple dress shirt and triangular goatee, he strikes a pose in the middle of the leather-and-glass-dominated Stark Enterprises office. It's as if we're eyeballing a freshly inked comic panel.

Stark's Trump-worthy office is a masterpiece of glass, leather and wood, overlooking a massive mural of a downtown-somewhere view. The minimalist look is broken up by airplane models, a big-screen plasma TV, and a framed diploma reminding us that "Anthony Edward Stark" received his physics and aeronautical degrees from MIT. Nearby, trophies (the Space Quest Award) and books ("The Tao of Physics") remind us that we're dealing with a hero as agile mentally as he is physically. To drive that point home ? almost too hilariously ? is a Photoshopped picture of a teenage Downey hanging with an '80s-era Bill Gates.

"[Stark is] a bit conflicted about the ramifications of weapons and what it means [to build them] in today's temperature and political climate," Downey explains. "And then he does something unusual."

As fans of the invincible one know, that unusual action yields an impregnable, red-and-gold suit of armor that blesses him with powers to rival any superhero. And when director Jon Favreau (see "Have Doubts About The 'Iron Man' Movie? Jon Favreau Wants To Hear Them") walks in carrying the trademark mask, the chills are reminiscent of the first time you saw Superman fly across a movie screen or Spidey slinging his web.

"We picked Robert because of his acting ability ? and when you put this on, it really shines through," the "Swingers" star-turned-director beams, teasing Downey.

Activating a button near the mask, the Iron icon springs to life, shining lights out of each eye. Sleek, metallic and intimidating, the mask walks a fine line between the practicality of Green Goblin and the homespun warmth of the Rocketeer.

"The part that attracts me to Iron Man is he's not really a superhero," Favreau explains. "He's just an inventor and a normal mortal who wasn't bit by a radioactive bug or shot with gamma rays or anything. He's a guy who invents a suit, and he uses his mind to create the persona of the superhero he plays."

As for the rest of the outfit, Downey reveals that it takes three men to put it on him, while Favreau adds: "Robert is very good with the suit. ... [Iron Man] flies, he can shoot repulsor beams out of the palms of his hands and out of his chest. He has a lot of little gadgets that are rigged up into the armor, using other Stark technologies that are used on weapons systems for aircraft."

On this day, a dark-haired Gwyneth Paltrow (as sharp-tongued secretary Pepper Potts) and chrome-domed Jeff Bridges (Stark rival Obadiah Stane) are having an intense conversation at Stark's computer. In the adjoining entranceway

Samuel L Jackson is Nick Fury!!!

Ain't It Cool News is reporting that 1408 star Samuel L. Jackson will be shooting scenes as iconic super spy Nick Fury on the set of Iron Man today. It doesn't say how big his role is, but we would assume it's a cameo of sorts.

What is also interesting, is that Nick Fury was one of the films Marvel Studios announced as one of the projects for its new independent film slate. The movie, based on the superhero with military roots, has screenwriter Andrew Marlowe attached. Will Jackson's role be expanded into a full movie? We'll have to wait and see.

Iron Man, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Robert Downey Jr., Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeff Bridges, opens May 2, 2008.

Iron Man Wraps Up Principal Photography

Iron Man director Jon Favreau has announced the end of principal photography on his MySpace group, and indirectly confirmed Hilary Swank might have a cameo in the film:

Principal photography ended with a huge bang as we filmed the final scenes of Iron Man in Caesar's Palace. As many of you already know, gambling is a casino's top priority. A production can not interfere with their cash cow. As a result, movies must shoot during the dead hours, no matter if it's Swingers or Rain Man. We were given a window of midnight to one the next afternoon to do all of our work. Part of our strategy to prepare for these ungodly hours was to stay up as late as possible the night before and sleep as late as possible. I did half the plan. The wrong half. I stayed out until 7AM and then woke up four hours later. After motoring through the delerium of a sleepless shooting marathon, I am proud to report that we have handily completed our movie on time and on budget. What a great way to end.

I would also like to thank Ceasars for their hospitality, generosity, and Swank accomodations.

Meanwhile, a possible new promo site has gone up at StarkIronWorks.com

The May 2, 2008 release stars Robert Downey Jr., Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeff Bridges.

This confirms rumors that Hillary Swank was having a cameo in the film. Here are 2 reports on the IMDB boards from what 2 people saw during the filming:

    [b]Hillary Swank has a cameo as a SHIELD AGENT today[/b] by aek6000 9 hours ago (Mon Jun 25 2007 12:19:14)

This mourning here in vegas they were filming abunch of scenes at ceasers. It looks like some sort of party scene. Hillary Swank has a small cameo as a SHIELD AGENT im not sure which one but in the scene she was hanging on Tonys arm and talking about SHIELD. From what I heard it sounds like SHIELD is being created in this film. I didnt bring my camera but there were a few people filming everything. I dont have any sources there is no web site or whatever but I was at ceasers and they were filming so your gonna have to go by my word and hope im not some stupid fan boy lol.

Anyways anyone know which agent she might be playing? by the way faverau was in the scene, but no sam jackson that I could see.

    [b]Hilary Swank has a small part[/b] by mfrsig 9 hours ago (Mon Jun 25 2007 11:48:29)

They were filming a scene at Caesars Palace in Vegas this morning - Hilary Swank was on set. She has small part apparently. She was hanging on Downy, Jr's arm while he shot craps. Director Favreau is in the scene also, as a casino pit boss.
It was funny, I was filming what I could with my digital camera, but one of the crew kept going out of his way to stand in front of me. They can't stop you, it isn't against casino rules from where I was standing, but they want to keep it off youtube or something.

ComingSoon.net talks about an update for Jon Favreau's MySpace page. He says that there is no truth to the following rumors:

*Hilllary Swank as a Shield Agent
*Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
*Himself as a Vegas security guard

[face_praying] I was kinda hoping there was some truth to that. I've always wanted to see other marvel characters in the movies, to bring it all together as one big universe. Seeing S.L.J. as Nick Fury in "Iron Man" before he even gets to have his own movie would've been so cool. Too bad.

Avi Arad Confirms Hillary Swank and Samuel L Jackson Cameos

Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner are just a few actresses who?ve fallen short in superhero movies over the last few years. But now, could a million-dollar baby be in training to take on another underdog battle?

Marvel Studios mega-producer Avi Arad confirmed to us for the first time over the weekend that 2-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank filmed some top-secret moments for ?Iron Man,? the highly-anticipated superhero flick due in theaters next May. The news raises eyebrows not only because it isn?t the type of film Swank normally appears in, but also because it could be assumed that her role would lay the groundwork for a future, bigger Marvel appearance. The rumor mill first began circulating Swank?s name after director Jon Favreau capitalized the ?s? in ?Swank? in a MySpace blog post.

?How do you know [about that]?,? a stunned Arad replied when asked about Swank. After a few beats, he admitted: ?It?s a cameo.?

Following along the lines of secret ?Iron Man? actors, the man behind the ?Spider-Man? and ?X-Men? films dodged a question about Samuel L. Jackson?s foreshadowing scenes as Nick Fury, saying ?I can?t talk about that.?

Clearly a bit frustrated, Arad then amended himself. ?The Sam thing was supposed to be the biggest secret of them all,? he shrugged. ?It?s amazing how it got out.?

Nevertheless, the existence of Jackson?s hard-boiled superspy reveals a newfound willingness by Marvel to begin mimicking the way its comics mix different characters into each other?s storylines on a regular basis.

?It?s because now we have control over the properties,? Arad explained, citing the new era of Marvel funding such upcoming flicks as ?Iron Man,? ?Nick Fury? and ?Captain America,? after a decade of holding hands with studios like Sony for Spider-Man or Fox for The Fantastic Four. ?Now you can mix and match. It used to be different studios having different characters.?

?You try and get three major studios to sit together and cross [promote],? he laughed. It?s too tough.?

On the Spider-Man front, Arad (who is shifting gears considerably with August 3rd?s ?Bratz: The Movie?) gave us this update: ?We?re starting on our journey for number 4. We?re just at the beginning of the process, feeling it, and feeling where we want to go.?

Based on Arad?s comments, however, fans might find it hard to not feel a bit speculative as to why a double-Oscar winning A-list actress would make a cameo in a superhero movie. Since ?Iron Man? is laying the groundwork for the ?Nick Fury? movie that Marvel hopes to begin filming relatively soon, one theory is that Swank will be a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent alongside Sam the man.

But just as probable, it seems, is speculation that Swank might be setting herself up for a starring superhero flick down the line. And if there?s one thing we?ve learned from her last award-winning performance, it?s that she certainly has the physique to pull it off.

Description of some preliminary footage from Comic-Con from Screen Rant.com:

Footage has just been presented at the convention. A brief snippet of Downey as Stark opinion on the use of weapons, followed by the Clunker Armor in action, and culminating in a heart stopping arial dog fighting scene.

Fav's made a brief appearance on stage and spoke of what additional footage will be shown on Saturday!!

More to come as we get it!!

    Better Description from SHH

After a bunch of movies were hyped-up at the Paramount panel at Comic-Con International (we'll have more on them soon), they announced that as a special treat, they'd be showing "test animation" from Jon Favreau's Iron Man instead of making everyone wait until Saturday. It was obviously a gag as they started to show cheesy animation from the '60s cartoon and after a bit of that (and a lot of laughter from the packed auditorium), director Jon Favreau came out with his video camera in hand, shooting the audience and saying that he wanted to make sure to put it onto YouTube before anyone else could. Yup, we'd been Punk'd but we were given a special treat for the trouble.

Without much urging, he agreed to show some footage, actually a rough trailer, for the movie, rather than making everyone wait until Saturday to see Iron Man in action. It went by fairly quickly but this is what we remember:

The footage starts with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark addressing soldiers with a speech which is paraphrased here: "Is it better to be feared than respected? I say, 'Is it too much to ask for both?' With that in mind, I humbly present the crown jewel of Stark Industries' Freedom Line. It's the first missile system to incorporate our proprietary repulsor technology." He then says something about the best weapon being one you don't have to fire, but he disagrees and says that the best weapon is the one you only have to fire once. "That's how America does it." It's a great scene that shows the humor that Downey Jr. will be bringing to the role as do the next two scenes.

Then we see Tony Stark coming out of an event in a tuxedo and he's stopped by a Vanity Fair reporter to ask him questions about being a "merchant of death" and he makes a snappy comeback. (We also see Favreau as his bodyguard in the scene.)

The next scene shows a bunch of military vehicles driving through the desert to the tune of an AC/DC tune with Robert Downey Jr. sitting in the back with a soldier who wants to take a picture with him. He jokes "I don't want to see this on your MySpace" page and then the soldier makes a V sign and he says "No gang signs, please." The soldier puts the V down and he goes "I'm just kidding."

There's then an explosion as they're under attack and he runs for cover and then in the next shot, he wakes up in a cavern and opens his shirt to see a round metal device where his heart is. "What did you do to me?" he asks and a man in the cave says, "I did it to save your life," and explains how he has put an electro-magnet hooked up to a car battery to save him.

He then starts building the suit and the next few scenes show him taking on a few Iraqi-types and we get to see the first Iron Man suit in action to the tune of Black Sabbath's "Iron Man." Lots of men are shooting at him but the bullets are bouncing off him and at one point, he swings his fist and his metal arm gets lodged into the cave walls and then one of the guys attacking him walks up and tries to shoot him in the Iron Man helmet but the bullet bounces back and hits him in the head.

The next few scenes are fairly fast-paced showing lots of explosions
and a brief glimpse of Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Terrence Howard as Rhodey and a few quick scenes showing the evolution of the Iron Man armor until it gets to the most current one. (That got a huge cheer.)

We then see Iron Man in that armor flying with two jets following him behind him and he goes flying off. We see a sheet of metal and a hammer hits a chisel that imprints the Iron Man logo and then there's another shot of the Iron Man armor flying.
