Do you plan on using cloth simulation on his cape?

So exactly how are you getting stuck. Be more specific, and I might be able to help you.

Hmmm... well, I always start with a plane. If you're to be doing cloth sim then I'm sure you want to keep the polys down. Could you post a screenshot of where you're stuck?

look a couple of posts up you'll see it

but why would i need to keep poly's down?
sorry i'm new to sim cloth and all that stuff
i just learned how to light a scene this morning

Well, for the sake of speed during simulation and rendering, you have the lower-poly cape mesh, the simulation on top of that, and then the subdivision. At least that's how Max works, I've never really used Maya.

If you're going to sim the cape, I would still have a couple folds modeled into it, like where it bunches behind the neck and shoulders. If you want to continue this discussion via PM I can show you some wireframes of cloth I've been working on. :)

no offense but i'd rather do it myself
and i prefer to learn by looking at pictures of wireframes of how other people do it.

No problem, I understand. Sometimes doing it yourself is the only way to learn.

alot of thanks goes out to jeneraljarjar for providing me with a wireframe of a cape he made
to avoid any confusion tho i made this cape completly by myself AND!
this is my very first attempt at modeling cloth and i am personaly very proud of it
i still have the pockets for his lightsaber left to make but that is easy i think.

    awaiting feedback.

(please tear it to shreds i can take it:p)

lookin good, however the back of the came looks a bit too flat, may be the lighting or the angle or something though

That looks really good! I especially like where it connects in the front. The only thing I would change is the thickness of the cape. It looks like a double-sided flat poly.

The question is, can it handle cloth simulation?

wel there are no cloth tutorials for maya that i have found on 3d total

    [image=http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/3222/grievouscape36iz.jpg]
here's grievous with a thickend cape and with the saber pockets.

now all thats left is to try and get the cloth simulation to work
and ofcourse the whole texturing deal

    wel i think so
cause there's suposed to be something in them when the cloth sim is applied so that it can fold properly and if i need to put this should make it easyer to look good

Your going to tear your eyes out several times, and then more when you start working on your cloth sims. But after several months and sleep-less nights, you'll finally get it! Then you can dance and things.

...Well, it might not actually take months, but it is extremely unfun. Best of luck to you. When you get it working, it will look great!
