I am currently building a R2 but it wont be ready for C2.

 

Does anyone know the website to this builders group?

 

I have to say that this will be pretty cool to see. Plus, the whole parade is in the Convention Center so it should be easy to catch.

You know, I was reading about this R2 Parade and i got to thinking. You know how people who make fan films often ask the 501st Garrison group for Stormtrooper costumes and actors for their shoot? I wonder if there can be an arrangement with the people who build these R2 units to somehow rent their creations for a shoot, i mean nothing says Star Wars like having a R2 unit in the shot, or even a R5 or something, it could be a background piece or a main star, you know, something for the character to interact with. Anyway, i hope there are different colored droids in the parade or it'll be mighty boring....it should loook like an Industrial Automaton factory or something.

 

Unforunately there aren't that many Artoo's out there. There are 700+ members in the 501st and there are Garrisons in many major cities.

And not all of the fan-made Artoo's are capable of moving.

 

I am looking forward to the parade. Maybe these will be all moving ones, because otherwise they'll look a little wacky in the parade.
I can just see some poor unmovable R2 being towed in a little red wagon.

 

What good is an R2 with a bad motivater?

 

It sounds like an interesting display of workmanship and creativity.
I'd check it out as long as there is NO CHARGE for it.

 

The buddy that I'm going with--I think half of the reason he's decided to go in the first place is to show off his Artoos (yes, he's bringing two of them) in the parade. I'm going to help him out with them.

And supposedly, making mobile Artoo units is both a giant pain in the ass and quite expensive, so I would expect that seeing mobile Artoos would be the exception rather than the norm. I would guess that most of the Artoos in the parade will have to be pushed/pulled on some sort of cart or something.

 

Oh yes...there's definately interest.

R2 is our FF mascot.

 

I hope the parade route includes the fan force tables, I will be working at the time of the parade....
one of the highlights of my trip is to see those little guys up close.......
We are trying to build one ourselves.........cant wait!!!!

The R2 parade is one of the reasons I booked a second flight reservation. I was leaving Indy Sunday morning, but decided I couldn't stand to miss an entire day of the Celebration!

Artoo is my favorite SW character and I understand the real Artoo will be there too. He ran over my foot at Celebrataion I, I was so excited! Gawd, I can't wait!
