But marriage isn’t dead. “There’s some work showing that both men and women want to get married at some point, and although they may choose to live together and have kids, they just don’t want to get married until they are more economically secure,” says Child Trend senior research scientist Elizabeth Wildsmith.

It doesn't really cost much to get married at the courthouse. Outside the cost of the marriage license the justice of the peace who signs it will happily do it for free along with a witness to it. So it is seen as a total taboo to get married by a justice of the peace at the courthouse?

Is it some sort of requirement to have a large wedding? Is your relationship any worse if you get married at the courthouse instead of having a big wedding or even cohabiting?

The answer is: whatever any couple decide they want to do and makes them happy is ok.

    Uh... of course it's okay.

... and if people want to wait and do something different, that's okay too. Why do you care about this stuff?

Let's rephrase the question: Is it ok for Beezel to get married at the courthouse?

This is a question that you will never need to answer for yourself. So why do you care?

I suspect the cost of the marriage/wedding itself is not the reason they are waiting.

But yeah, it's definitely okay to get married at a courthouse. And by okay I mean better.

I'm sure at some point in time beez will end up at a courthouse regarding a woman, but the chances of it being for marriage are pretty nil.

Why the hell would a relationship be worse for not having a big wedding?

Cruise weddings are pretty popular, and more cost effective than the traditional ceremony/reception, as they generally cost less (perhaps even with the added cost of airfare) and include a vacation/honeymoon. Cruise weddings have increased by something like 60% in the past several years. And all major lines offer some very nice packages.

We renewed vows on a Disney cruise a couple of years ago. It was excellent.

This is true, with the caveat that they better invite me, in theory.

I'm sure they'd invite you if they had your address, in theory.

Well a wedding with less than three deaths is always going to be considered a dull affair, so maybe it's good that this isn't happening as much now?

He's not gonna be at that theory either. If there is a theory, beyond it might be bunnies.

Well, the article is about how there's a rise in unmarried couples choosing to have children prior to marriage, and one of the examples opted for that approach due to financial decisions... and then I think the Beez thinks this is because of the cost of a large wedding(?) so he's wondering why they can't just get married in a courthouse.

Which completely misses the nuances of the situation, other rationales, and assumes that a marriage license is somehow more correct, but, y'know, beezel thread.

Considering how my brother's first marriage ended, it probably wasn't a bad idea for it to be at the courthouse.
