Here in Salt Lake City there is this radio show on X96 and this woman has a white son and his name is Mohamed. I ask you JC, is that OK? Aren't their racial rules against things like this?

I'm not sure why non-Muslim parents would name their kid after the prophet. If anything, it's not particularly original. But I don't care.

I've seen far, far worse names, so sure - at least that's a real one.

This is a weird question. Even weirder is "Aren't their racial rules against things like this?". What?

I'm confused about why you thought the kid's race was more important than his religion in this situation?

Because after the 2008 elections, talking incessantly about how something is "Muslim" is largely the vogue way to fret about colored people who make you uncomfortable.

I'm not, if I comes off that way I'm sorry. It just strikes me in a weird way that a non Muslim white would have that name.

No, because it honors a false prophet.

    Same goes for brown kids.

    But it should be legal.

Eh. I'm of the opinion that you should keep your child's name in accordance with your heritage or ethnicity.

You wouldn't name a Caucasian kid in Pennsylvania "Palashranjan" now would you?
Or how about "Hao Da Zhong"?

Eh I guess digging a little deeper she has other kids named Festus and Jonesie so maybe she just has a thing for names.

Yeah or what about a person of European descent named for Jews, even thought that ethnic group was historically persecuted in Europe? I mean, can you imagine a white person named John, or Joseph, or Mary, or Jeremiah or Sarah or Joshua or David or Noah or Daniel or Hannah?

    Oh, wait.

Doesn't really count, since European names are a bit of a melting pot thanks in part to both the Roman Empire and the Catholic Church. Two thousand years of mingling and trading has a tendency to do that.

Now if you were to go to 15 CE and name a Roman boy "David", I'm sure there would be some eyebrows raised.

EDIT - For Clarity. Europe isn't a melting pot, but the spread of names via intermingling civilizations does exist.

Don't tell that to the thousands of people of Asian heritage in my area with Anglo names. Or (ugh) your governor "Bobby" Jindal.

Why would it be so bad? Yes, a European-looking kid with a Hindu name would raise eyebrows in the United States, but is it wrong just because it's unusual? It's perfectly acceptable for people of other ethnicities here to have "white" names.

Lots of Hispanic people call their kids Jesus, even though Jesus was a blond haired, Anglo-Saxon Republican...

No, you're thinking of Joshua, Ender. And that's totally a white person name. That probably surfs.

Anyone naming their kid Jesus is weird considering that's not a name. If you want to name your kid after the founder of Christianity and you insist on using the English version of his name, he should be called Joshua since, you know... that was his name :-B

Anyway why can't people name their kids are fictional entities? Remember when kids in the early 80's were called Luke? Same thing.
