When he's talking to Obi-Wan in the bongo, he says something like, "Maxie big the Force", and it doesn't sound like he's talking trash there. But then he says something I've never really understood, that whole, "Well that smells stinko????" and Obi-Wan gives Jar Jar a look like he just said something very uncool. What's Jar Jar saying there?

Jar Jar like Han Solo didn't believe in the Force.

Well yeah, I mean if you're an average person/creature why the hell WOULD you believe in The Force? I mean for the average mind it defies all laws of science and reality that you base your world on.

Having Jar Jar to be like Han is a bad idea for Lucas.

Well, it's up for personal interpretation, but I think "maxi big da force" is his way of showing respect. A organisim with such low brain capacity isn't capable of sarcasm.

He is using sarcasm. Look at his head movement during he says this line. He has that *yada, yada* body-language attitude.

    Here is the line:

JAR JAR: ?Ooooh, maxibig..."da Force"...Wellen, dat smells stinkowiff.?

He is simply saying that the force is ?Big.? Even a creature that has been isolated on a mid rim planet knows something about the force.

I agree with Smuggler-of-Mos-Espa. There is no sarcasm in his voice.

It sounded sarcastic enough to me. It was as if he was saying "Oh, yeah, the Force is just sooooooo great, it'll reeeeaaallllly help us out here."

Jar Jar isn't the brightest crayon in the box, but he's hardly mentally deficient. He was being sarcastic, as evident by his body language. His whole attitude during scene is very much, "You've got to be kidding me" regarding Qui Gon and Obi Wan's calm attitudes regarding their underwater fate.

Take a look at the script:

JAR JAR : Dis is nusen.
OBI-WAN : Master, why do you keep dragging these pathetic life forms along with us?...Here, take over.
JAR JAR : Hey, ho? Where wesa goen??
    QUI-GON : You're the navigator.
JAR JAR : Yo dreamen mesa hopen...
QUI-GON : Just relax, the Force will guide us...
JAR JAR : Ooooh, maxibig..."da Force"...Wellen, dat smells stinkowiff.

His line is very much a moment of, "Oh yes, how could I forget that big, shiny nonexistant thing that won't help us down here?" Believe it or not, you don't have to be Han Solo not to be a believer in the Force. 9_9

If that helps in the German dubbing he says something along the lines of, "Oh yeah, sure......the Force."

It IS obvious that he is acting sarcastic. Just because he is clumsy doesn't mean he is stupid. Sure, he acts a little dorky at times oh well. He still is a hero to the children.

I think that Jar Jar is only being slightly verbose.

Don't you all think that the 'stinkowiff' part of the line makes it sarcastic?

More like "Oh, sure, the force- what a load."

Jar Jar is referring to the force as an oversized feminine napkin.

The silly thing about this is that Han lives in an OT universe that has been long without Jedi. Jar Jar lives in the time of the Republic and on a planet that is somehow (this is another mystery) important in the galaxy.

So this Gungan should know better than to dis the force in the prescence of two Jedi.

The Gungan society seems rather isolated though, so it would make sense for them to not really know about Jedi at all. The Naboo do, but not the Gungans.
