Is it me or is Star Wars one of the few pieces of literature that is a continuation of the art of storytelling. It has survived and thrived for thirty years and will likely survive. Why its themes reach to the heart of everyone. Its like the stories told and passed down from generation to generation. Star Wars will survive not as a movie but as a story. We dont need a tv or radio to show the story. Most of us can quote the movies and tell the story. With sound effects.

    So what do you think?

Every generation has this myth--this work of art that defines them. For the Greeks, it was the Gods and Heroes of their land. To the early settlers of the British Isles, it was Beowulf. The Ancient Hebrews looked to the leaders of their mythical past. There was King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Every culture, every time has a myth. For our time, Star Wars is one of those stories. One that captures the imagination and inspires the human spirit.

It was always intended to follow the mythic structure, George so closely followed Joseph Campbell's work--and thus a myth was born. Or perhaps it was re-born. For this story--the story of Star Wars has always been around, and it always will.

I think you're right. Star Wars is a story, more than anything else, and that's one of the reasons it touches something in so many people, and more so than any other film.

You can almost imagine telling the story of Star Wars as a bedtime story...

Star Wars is a modern myth that has sunk into the collective consciousness in most parts of the world. The only other story that comes even close is LotR. There are admittedly significant differences between Tolkien and Lucas, but they have the mythos in common.

Both Tolkien and Lucas follow the basic formula of Joseph Campbell (mythology expert.) In terms of structure, their two stories can be very similar.

I agree and by the way if you think about it most of the saga is not films anyway but consists of novels and comics(so called EU).
