This has been something that has always troubled me whenever someone says the "Clone Wars". Isn't that a mispronunciation? Like shouldn't it only be the Clone War? They are only fighting one clone war in the prequels and no character, I believe, ever says the Clone Wars. They refer it to the Clone War, without the s. You wouldn't call the Galactic Civil War, Galactic Civil Wars, would you?

We all know the famous line Yoda spoke at the end of Attack of the Clones, "Victory? Victory, you say? Master Obi Wan, not victory. The shroud of the dark side has fallen. Begun, the Clone War has." So, shouldn't it be just pronounced the Clone War, minus the s?

For some reason it has always been referred to as the Clone Wars...In the micro-series and in the animated TV show. Even Luke called it the Clone Wars when he asked Obi-Wan if he fought in them. It's officially called the Clone Wars but you would think it would just be called the Clone War

Leia said it too in her message to Obi Wan, telling him that her father fought with him in the Clone Wars. But really, it should just be Clone War, no s on the end

It's called Clone Wars due to the mass scale of the war. On the surface it was Republic vs. Separatists but there was proxy wars on both sides and even independent factions like Death Watch under Darth Maul for example. Separatists would back dictatorships or rebel groups along with the Republic to gain hold on systems. Conflicts mean separate too. The scale was so massive that even independent wars got in the mix between the Republic and Seps.

As far as I know, the only one who refers to it as "the clone war" is Yoda (" Begun the Clone War has").

But it had just begun, he didn't know the extent to which it would spread. Well, he was a Jedi Master, perhaps he should have known, but apparently to predict the future is not his best quality...

After all, "difficult to see, always in motion, is the future."

No Jedi were able to figure out the present...The Sith Lord was just around them, gaining more and more power and manipulating everybody in the Senate, and they didn't even have a first idea about his true identity. How can they surmise the future? :D

Ahsoka uses the term "Clone War" in Rebels, along with Rex and (I believe) Kanan, too.

There was a third faction: the Shadow Collective AKA Darth Maul and the criminal underworld

Basically what other people have said. The war wasn't just the Republic vs the Separatists, it was thousand of planets vs thousands of other planets. Many tried staying neutral but failed, and many did not wish to choose either side. Plus there were Rebels movements growing under the surface (As shown in TCW Onderon arc) And the other factions (Such as Darth Maul).

But generally I choose not to think about it to hard. How can we put RL logic into a galaxy far far away. Its possible that "The Clone War" And "The Clone WarS" are just interchangeable in their minds.

"Clone War" and "Clone Wars" are interchangeable. In-universe, they are referred to in both forms. I think "Clone Wars" refers to the fact that the war dragged on for so long, it felt like many separate wars. Just an idea.

It is a mispronunciation because at the time of the original film the concept of what the Clone Wars was or how many conflicts it consisted of wasn't formed yet until the early 2000's.
