    He was too over the top for me. I liked his cold cunning in ROTJ. The cackling made him sound like an insane villain from a bad B movie.

    I respect that.

    Me, I'm cool with the cackle (sounds like a T-shirt or album title ;)) Palpatine spent years keeping his plans and powers a secret - seems believable that a megalomaniac like him would be absolutely giddy when he got to release the beast.

    Totally agree. I loved the sheer pleasure it seemed he was having at the end. After so many years in hiding he was finally able to let his Sith flag fly and he was loving it.
