Every thread needs a little silliness, otherwise it'll just turn into another redundant EU discussion/PT bashing/gushing.

He was too over the top for me. I liked his cold cunning in ROTJ. The cackling made him sound like an insane villain from a bad B movie.

    I respect that.

Me, I'm cool with the cackle (sounds like a T-shirt or album title ;)) Palpatine spent years keeping his plans and powers a secret - seems believable that a megalomaniac like him would be absolutely giddy when he got to release the beast.

Totally agree. I loved the sheer pleasure it seemed he was having at the end. After so many years in hiding he was finally able to let his Sith flag fly and he was loving it.

At least he didn't have an annoyingly high pitched laugh.

Just so other threads don't get too cluttered - I still maintain that Sidious will be back, maybe not in Episode 7 but definitely by Episode 8.

To answer the title of this thread, Palpatine can't be dead because Palpatine is immortal. Dead and Palpatine don't belong in the same sentence.

The only only way Palpatine and dead belong in the same sentence is if the word 'isn't' is in the sentence. Making it Palpatine isn't dead.

He fell down a reactor shaft and exploded just minutes before the entire space station itself exploded. If that ain't dead I don't know what is.

I'll tell you what is. If the spirit of whoever hit the reactor was destroyed afterwards.

Everybody thought Batman was dead at the end of Dark Knight Rises! They even made a freakin' statue!

I saw it fall down the shaft and explode into a bluey mist. And then you know the whole space station he was on went KABOOM.

You must'nt have seen many movies, to me it was quite obvious why Anakin didn't just stab him - it was so if Lucas decided to make 7-9 he could come back.

I remember when Darth Maul got cut in two one of the things Lucas said was "I wanted to make sure people knew he was dead" - why not do the same with Sidious?

Stab him with what exactly? He lost his lightsaber when he lost his hand.

Darth Maul didn't explode nor did the planet explode after he fell down.

Darth Maul has but a fraction of the Emperor's power, skill, and resources.

Think about it this way -

    1) We need Sith for a Star Wars movie to work, if you don't agree with this then you may as well stop reading here.

    2) At the end of ROTJ we are sure that Darth Vader is redeemed and definitely dead.

    3) It appears that Darth Sidious was thrown off a balcony of sorts, some blue electricity-like thing pulses upwards a few seconds afterwards, there is no explanation for it - it might be an explosion, it might be unconnected to Sidious - it is not explained.

So if you want Sith in Episode 7 you need Sidious, he is the ultimate big-bad and the only one who can tie together the 3 trilogies.

No...I'm pretty sure I saw him die at the end of Return of the Jedi...Its the same movie where Darth Vader died...so he should not be in the new movies either;)

    Convenient isn't it?

He has no means to kill him on screen...so there is no doubt of his fate...

This I agree with. An expy is far worse than a ressurection.
