This line was included to allow for Plagueis to return. The "unnatural" part will be used to explain how Plaguies was able to "not exist" during the prophecy's fulfillment, and return after the fact.

SO, Palpatine pulled an Obi-Wan and transformed himself before being destroyed in the reactor. We (most of us) don't tend to think of this option because we want to think only the Jedi can pull this trick. But perhaps not? The making of ESB book suggests, or outright states, that the emperor "does exactly what Ben did; he can also transform himself."

That would be the easiest way to explain his "surviving" ROTJ.

Although I'm in the other camp I can appreciate your effort in making the case for Darth Sidious. Well done.

However, one who has cheated death, side stepped the prophecy without being held to account and was the Magister of Palpatine/Darth Sidious scares the living Hell out of me. How will Luke and our new heroes counter one who undermines the Chosen One?

No Sidious = not Star Wars in my opinion. If I wanted creativity, I'd look for a new intellectual property.

 

Palpatine should be dead in the ST.

If he doesn't die in ROTJ, then Vader's redemption and his return to the good side of the Force is all for not.

Now if Palpatine does indeed die in Jedi, but returns as a Force ghost, then this also is problematic, because it contradicts the implied notion that only Jedi can return as Force ghosts.

Yoda, Ben, and then Anakin, at the end of his life, make it fairly clear that immortality is the reward for choosing the right path, whilst true death is the reward for being evil.

Let's make a parallel scenario in an imagined history.

You kill Hitler before he manages to gas a million Jews, you die doing so, giving your life in the act.

No question you are a selfless hero, by doing this it ends WW2 and peace reigns for thirty years.

However it's revealed that Hitler wasn't killed, he escaped and has been hiding.

Now he's back to threaten the world again, your son takes up the challenge to defeat him again.
