If Palpatine is still alive then I think the Jedi should give up, look up, and yell at the Creator (Lucas)...'You deal with him!'
    And he will, I know.

Palpatine is powerful but so was Yoda. He's dead too. No one cheats death and the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise tells us exactly that.

    1) The Sith might return but then again they may not. Are you saying it's impossible for George Lucas and the writers to create a new type of villain.

    2) Agreed.

    3) I don't really need an explanation since it's quite obvious what happened.

Sidious isn't the only thing that can connect the trilogies together. I believe they're going to surprise us all in the end.

Not really. Luke went berserk and defeated him by cutting off his lightsaber hand so he couldn't strike back. So then Vader uses his strength instead to throw his master to the depths.

Don't know what an expy is, but there is nothing worse than a resurrection.

I've seen that word used alot lately and have no idea what it means either. Anyway, I completely agree.

An expy is a new character that's an old character in all but name.

Yeah, I'll take 10 of those over a resurrection.

Looks like one of us might be unhappy then, unless Disney manages to avoid either.

That's why I'd like to see the dark side represented by something other than Sith

    What about some evil Ewoks?

Have them really eat one of the heroes.

All kidding aside, an evil Ewok as a side character would be awesome, they should have one!

I don't want an expy or a resurrection then. I want a new character who hasn't already been dead in the past. ;)

You don't need to ressurect him, he never died.

...if he didn't die, which is a plot device that I believe will be used.

    1) I think it's unlikely, highly unlikely. It's been Jedi vs Sith for 6 films and you think they would risk removing that ?

    2) Cool.

    3) Haven't you ever seen a film where the bad guy is thought to be dead but it ends up he survived? I think that's what's going on here and the way in which he did not die on screen just screams to me that he'll be back.

But he did die on screen. He exploded into energy and then the DS got blown up.

    He's dead, Jim.

    He's dead, Jim.

He died twice, let's leave it at that. Let's do a new original villain for the next one.

'E's passed on! This emperor is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker!
'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the throne 'e'd be pushing up the daisies!
'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig!
'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!!

    THIS IS AN EX-SITH!!

    Put it this way...

That blue explosion thingy everyone's talking about
It was his body exploding in pure Force energy
    UNTIL
It was retconned into some crap like him, teleporting or something.

As much as I absolutely love Ian McDiarmid's acting... no thank you. I'd rather be played with the "Plagueis was really the villain" card than Palpatine again

I feel Palpatine's death is pretty definitive, but there is room to bring him back if necessary. I really hope they don't, though - if the creative team behind the next generation of Star Wars is not creative enough to come up with a new antagonist and instead has to settle for an old villain who has been done to death, then Star Wars is truly doomed for stagnation.
