    The Nazi Allegory:

It's a myth that the majority of Germans did not adhere to Nazism. They did, it was only in 1944-45, from the end of 1944, that the people lost faith in Hitler. They approved fully of the anti-Jew laws and the Final Solution. How often could a German see trains going to the camps, filled to capacity and one-way only, without suspecting? It has become clear in the last decade of historical research that Nazi Germany used religious means to impart its message and the people liked it. Hitler and the Nazis could never have done all they did with a minority of the people supporting them, lucky for them they had the majority backing them. See Hitler by Ian Kershaw both volumes and Humanity by Jonathon Glover for how the Nazis corrupted Germany.

    The Q At Hand:

No. NJO was, in conception, the asking of the Q: What would happen if the characters of SW got attacked by an enemy to which there was no obvious political, moral or military solution? Despite its lousy execution this Q remains valid and worth investigating.

    The Violence Issue:

With the exception of XWing and BFC, the violence in Bantam was on a par with the films. Had the books been done as films the violence would merit a U rating. IF a literal translation of NJO to film happened, the rating would be 12, 15 or even 18. The universal audience to which SW has always been targeted at would be lost, for the sake of excessively graphic portrayal of violence. THAT is the problem with NJO, not the violence per se but the visual execution of it.

    The Trilogy Argument:

NJO isn't a trilogy, why try to conceive of it in terms that it does not exist in relation to? It's supposedly five acts, but events in EOV give the lie to that claim e.g. Mara's illness being resolved.

    The Prequels Argument:

As was said on another thread in another forum:

    "Graphic does not equal tragic."

The Prequels' darkness will be of a fundamentally different nature to that of NJO. It will not feature graphic gore and insane politicians, it will be a more subtle and unsettling darkness. We may end up supporting Palpatine's creation of the Empire against our better instincts, the likelihood of the Vong being able to cause such a near corruption of our sense of self is zero. The Vong are simply repellent.

    As To The Future:

With what I'm hearing about Stover and Williams, maybe, just maybe NJO will live up to its vast untapped potential.

Presently I'm on DJ, review to follow in the official thread...
