I don't know if anything has been said by Lucas or anyone in any position of power on that subject, but I just have to ask myself the question. how far after ROTJ can it go?

I would like the EU to continue, but as time goes on, it is inevitable that significant characters who must be limited by biological factors will die.

Characters like Han and Wedge who have no force powers to prolong there lives must eventually die, Chewie was killed despite having a wookie lifespan, and other characters must eventually die if any realism is to remain in the SW galaxy.

Admitedly, they could continue the EU with the next generation of characters, but is Lucas really willing to allow some of his greatest and most important characters fade in to the darkness?

As long as there's money to made, there will be EU.

There is one simple answer to that: YJK. The series set the stage for a new generation of SW heroes.
