Is there another Palpatine in the galaxy?

I don't mean in the vicinity of Force power, that's actually kind of irrelevant in this discussion.

I mean with his political power, or somewhere near it. When we see Luke Skywalker use diplomacy its always as a way to bring peace or stop an angry leader, which usually ends up with the activation of his lightsaber.

Then the Jedi don't interfere with governments in General and by that I mean that I've never heard of a Jedi climbing the ladders of power or running for senate office. Now forgive my knowledge if there has been, I haven't been reading as much as I could be.

In fact, Thrawn wielded great political power, but that seemed more from the military strength.
