Did Vader truly turn to the dark side or did he just turn to the supposed 'gray side'?

Dark Side. Ben says so. He became a Lord of the Sith.

and I wouldn't say that the good in him that Luke felt makes him gray. Just dark with hope for redemption.

LOL, just the entire concept of the "gray side" is funny, lol... Never thought of it like that. :p

I'm sure some "darksiders" in the EU actually count as 'gray' (some among them without the r, too :p) ;)

    What sided?

No, Vader was undoubtedly Venusian Cerulean-sided. :p

What on Earth are you talking about?

Dark side, no question. I consider Luke "gray" because he dabbled in the dark side but only did it for reasons that could sort of be construed as righteous. I think you could argue that Luke was actually taking his first halting steps toward the dark side in RotJ when he choked the guards and attacked Vader at the end of the duel, but since he didn't make it all the way there, he's gray.

Vader, on the other hand, didn't stop when it started to become apparent he was using righteous anger as an excuse to do anything he wanted. Slaughtering the Tuskens was already pushing the limits of what could be called justifiable anger, and slaughtering countless numbers of civilians (and military officers as well) is well over the line. As Vader, he seems to have no regard for life. It's possible he still thinks he's doing something good because the people he victimizes represent some sort of evil, but he wouldn't be able to convince anyone else of that.

But what if there is no dark side? What if the dark side only gets its name from the actions of the user and any "darkness" comes not from the Force, but from the user?

Which would still make Vader a "Dark" Jedi, since he used the Force as a agent of evil, but Skywalker? His use of the "Dark" side was for good and not evil. Therefore, Skywalker just used the Force to serve his personal good side.

Good job you didn't accidentally leave out the "r" out of that question! :p

Damn it! Whaddya mean he's gray sided? He's on the dark side of course.

There's not even mention of the 'Gray Side' in Star Wars and I doubt Eppy III will mention it either.

Light or Dark. Pick one. Ani chose dark. End of story.

The mention of sides of the Force in a movie doesn't make them real. You're assuming that everyone who talks about the Force in the films understands what they're talking about and is right, and that's not necessarily true. You could even argue that no one alive during the saga really understood the Force and that was why the Force killed them off, so nothing any of them said can be trusted.

PT characters also mention a living and unifying Force, but fans don't automatically accept that view as valid.

hmm.. maybe Vader is on the dark side of the gray side and Luke is on the light side of the gray side, or maybe that's just an off-white? but then i guess Vader would have to be on the darkest part of the dark side of the gray side.. gasp! this is confusing!

He definitley turned to the dark side. All of the way. To be a full fledged Sith, you shouldn't have any "grayness".

    defenetly dark side...
but he kind of star to be gray ever since he learned the identity of Luke.
dark since the slaughter of the Jedis, murders of his officers.... too much anger and death
