I rewatched part of EP2 last night and wonder why dooku's confession to OB1 about the republic being ran by the sith only got a "HMMMMMMMM" from Mace and Yoda. When Anakin tells them palps the sith they try to take him down. Is this explained anywhere.

I'm guessing for the same reason why they didn't concede that the prophecy might not have been what they thought it was until it was too late.

They did say they'd have to watch the Senate more closely which would have been three years.

Seems Anakin was reaffirming conclusions that the Council was already suspecting by then... thus the request for Anakin to keep an eye on Palpatine after the guy puts Anakin on the Council plus the suggestion that the Chancellor wasn't going to lay down his powers at the end of the war....

In the novelization they find Sidious as being in the old industrial section of Coruscant and somehow he is tracked to 500 Republica (where Palpatine's office is). So at that point the Jedi suspect Sidious and Palpatine know each other.

Because they knew that Dooku was using the dark side by then, and were weary of anything he said. It sounded alot more credible coming from Anakin, even though Mace didn't completely trust him. He still had to give him the benefit of the doubt and arrest Palpatine.

Plus, I think that "Palpatine is the Sith Lord we've been looking for" is ALOT more "actionable" intelligence than just "somewhere there is a Sith Lord who is controlling the Senate."

What Dooku said and what Anakin said were completely different.

Dooku said "100s of Senators are now under the influence of a Sith Lord called Darth Sidious." As in mental maniuplation.

Anakin said in EPIII that Chancellor Palpatine was the Dark Lord of the Sith. As in an actual identity.

In Dooku's case, it could have been anyone. The Dark Lord of the Sith could've been a lobbyist, a Senator, one of the Imperial Guards, the Vice Chancellor, Chancellor, or even one of the janitors. In fact, he wouldn't even have to be involved directly with the Senate at all. All that is required to make Dooku's statement true is that the Sith Lord--whomever that person may be--is using their power and influence to affect Senate affairs. While it makes some people more likely candidates than others, it doens't at all narrow down the list of possibilities as to who the Sith Lord might be. After all, in TPM they know that the TF (one Senate seat) is being influenced by the Sith, so why not several more being influenced in that manner, and not directly through the Senate at all?

So there was nothing to do when Dooku made his revelation. Dooku didn't really reveal anything. Anakin gave them what they actually needed: a positive ID. Thus the different response.
