There are also rumors floating around that one/both of the screens may be touch screens. I have only read that this rumor "can be neither confirmed or denied from the Big N.

I am not ready to call the Big N nuts just yet, even the idea behind the VB was phenomenal. It was just two expensive to mass produce, and N made the mistake of releasing it anyways.

I predict Virtual Boy 2.

Nintendo has made a lot of bad and luke warm decisions in recent years.

 

So what is this next gen console?

 

Well, Nintendo's emphasizing that the DS will not replace any existing system, so it's not really "next gen."

 

Oh, the dual screen game boy?

 

It ain't a Game Boy(well, at least in name).

 

Yeah it is, they just won't admit it.

 

They're going to make a new Game Boy too, so you can't really say that it's a new Game Boy. It's a new handheld.

 

I'm not sure the market will be able to sustain this many handhelds - GBA/next GB, PSP, DS. We will have the same problem as with 3 full consoles now.

 

DS is going to fail; it's a given. The average consumer will be confused by the selection of two Nintendo handhelds, and they'll likely choose the good ol' Game Boy over the unfamiliar DS. I'm not sure about PSP, though.

 

Except the DS will play GB games as well, so it has a chance. That way you can choose and avoid confusion and play GB games no matter what.

Which will only result in more confusion for the average consumer. You and I are both gamers, so we can easily understand the differences and similarities among the choices of hardware. The average consumer, however, is still saying "Can I have a Sony GameBox?"

I don't care if it sells well or not.

I only care that it will be a good and fun product.

I'm a gamer. Simple as that. if it's good, I'll give it a shot.

I'm not worried about Nintendo. They are sitting on over 10 billion dollars and aren't going anywhere any time soon.

Nothing wrong with being number 2 instead of number 1 like Sony is. They're still making money. Still making profits. Add to that the revenue they get from the GBA... I'm not wrried about Nintendo.

As long as they keep providing me with excellent first party and second party titles... I'm happy.

I agree. Bigger 3rd Party support would be great. But... the reason I buy Nintendo is for 1st and 2nd party titles ( and some exclusive 3rd party titles).

Luckily I have a PS2 for my 3rd party titles.

When I say "gamer," I mean person-who-knows-what-NES-stands-for, not just simply a person who plays video games occasionally.

Well, so far, the DS looks like Virtual Boy 2, though that could change.

I'm glad it's backwards compatible; I might actually buy the thing.

 

Looks pretty impressive. It's graphics might not be as great as the PSP's, but the fact that it will probably be cheaper, as well as the technical innovations(dual screens, internet capabilities, touchscreen) will certainly put the pressure on Sony.

 

It has plenty good enough graphics, just below the GC, so what. thats the PS2, no ?

 

Awesome. I'll get the DS for sure. Especially with Animal Crossing DS coming out too.

I like the way it looks, and the SNES-style layout of it seems promising for a Classic-SNES series alongside the Classic-NES series. **shrug**

Check around the Internet; the hypw for this thing is HUGE. At E3 it has the longest line and it and the PSP and the New Zelda are the hit of the show.

I'm getting this one when its released however I don't think I'll get a PSP -- too expensive.

 

Well, it looks to have Mario Kart 64, some sort of Super Mario 64 thing, a Metroid demo of some sort, and classic Mario Gameplay with 3d graphics!

The possibilites are endless for nintendo.

 

What are the resolution differences between the screen(s) on DS and PSP?

Is the PSP full TV?

Is the DS better than GBA?
