so sarsulah the story is this:

when damon and j.j. were writing the pilot, they originally intended to give boone the nickname "5" and everybody was going to call him "5". well, at some point they decided that was a dumb idea so they did a search and replace in the word document and changed all the "5"s to "boone"s. some time later they were reading through the script and they got to the part where jack gives his big fear monologue and at the end of it he counts "1...2...3...4...boone."
