After doing some searches and finding no sign of the event in the boards, thought I'd give a heads up about ApolloCon, a gen con which is happening on June 22-24, 2007 in Houston, and last year drew several hundred people from all over the south and southwest

It's generic in the best sense - it's run for science fiction, fantasy, horror, anime and science fans of all kinds. You're going to meet anime fans, gamers, cosplay girls and guys, media and literary fans.

They are *very* amenable to media groups having their own "meet-to" at the same event. For instance, last year there were some big meetups of Firefly and Farscape fans, as well as folks from many other fandoms hanging out. If you want to run something bigger - a 30th anniversary event in conjunction with the con, that may still be possible - PM me.

Major things that may be of interest, besides the panels, dealers room, art show and masquerade:

It's not too late to enter the Apollocon writing workshop, deadline June 1st.

If you and your group would like to attend, and promote your regional club and activities, it's not too late to get a free display board.

If you are a film maker, you may want to look into their Iron Director competition.

If you plan to attend and have the gift of gab, the programming heads are still looking for one more SW philosopher-experts to talk about Star Wars at one of the panels. If you're interested, talk to Kim or Katy at programming@apollocon.org .
