One of my classmates says, "She's Native American - does she have diabetes?"

Now we just found out that she likes fry bread.

EDIT: to be clear, this isn't a real patient. This is a problem based learning written case study written by teachers at my school.

Basically, my medical school teaches us to be racist.

Once the dean of students called one of my Native American classmates in to talk about his "party lifestyle" on a rumor from another student that he is an alcoholic.

Native American, taught to be racist, and a pain in her abdomen. Hmm, perhaps the arrow sticking out of said andomen has something to do with it. Here, have some fire water to dull the pain...

Is there a way to end up a racist that doesn't involve learning it?

I mean, he's clearly talking about the fictional woman in the case study... not sure how he gathered that she was taught to be racist... it that's what he was saying.

No, I don't think he was talking about a doctor, he was talking about the Native American woman

Dunno... it was worded weirdly. :p

On that same token, if I - a man who is whiter than the milk in the fridge, comes in with blood on his hands and multiple cuts, then it was undoubtedly from beating down a minority during a hate crime.

All black men should be first checked for skittles before moving on to examination and diagnosis.

I have never seen a more confounding case of poor reading comprehension. I genuinely cannot piece together how you got from point A) OZK saying that he and his classmates are taught to be racist to point B) saying the hypothetical patient that he and his classmates were discussing was taught to be racist. All logic is defied.

I still can't figure out if that's actually what Kyle thought, or if his post was just written horribly. I thought it was pretty clear that he implied the Native American woman was taught to be racist, which makes no sense.

    Wow. Guys.

    A. OZK's original remark was a sarcastic joke. When young woman come in complaining of several days of vomiting in the morning, people think of pregnancy. They never think that about men. This is "sexist" in the same way that the above example was "racist." It's just thinking about what's likely by factoring risk factors for diseases.

    B. I agree with Harps. The sentence construction, "Native American, taught to be racist" should be read as "[The] Native American [who was] taught to be racist."

Okay, but we don't know that she was taught to be racist. The only thing OZK said about racism involved his med school... he said nothing about the Native American woman being racist... which is where the confusion with his post came from.
