Good job believing a claim made by companies every time a former employee alleges anything against them.

 

Let's really not have the Blackfish argument again.

 

The movie never alleged that they failed to do brand-conscious nice things on occasion. It charged that A) it knowingly fosters a fundamentally unsafe work environment and B) the conditions of confinement are actually unpleasant for and damaging to the animals. The first point has been legally sustained, the second has a whole body of literature dedicated to it in biology. Captivity of any kind is literally far more stressful for animals than is living in the wild, and that's even before you get to the low hanging fruit of severe space limitations and their non-family groupings. Your response is a bit like saying that Nike can't have sweatshops because they help promote women's sports.

They are a company. They exist to make money. Some of those things are good, or at least marginally helpful on balance. Some of those things are disgusting and abusive. We should absolutely criticize the latter, without allowing them to use the former as a shield.

 

From a post wondering whether we have a gun problem:

Yeah because every Sea World employee that I'm friends with automatically has the same opinion of those former employees. Clearly the company is at fault for making them think that way, and not their own personal experiences with those former employees.

Anyway, before this becomes a Sea World debate thread, my original post regarding my Facebook news feed was meant to convey irritation with people who take issue with Sea World solely due to Blackfish. If you want to discuss the ethics of captive animals, etc, fine. But referring only to Blackfish with the unwavering belief that it's a credible source of valid information is just plain absurd imo.

i recently unfollowed about 98% of my facebook friends. that is what it took to turn my news feed into something i actually didn't mind looking at.

 

My fb feed has been more or less decent, except for for the few pics here and there that show up because my uncle "liked" them. He will click like on anything with a cleavage.

 

I'm sorry but that second one is actually kind of funny. Feel free to scream at me about what an ignorant misogynist I am.
