Yeah, I thought DLM lived in NYC, which as far as I know still has public libraries.

Occasionally, for books. But mostly it's for movies - lots and lots of movies (50 item limit)

I use mine to jimmy the bolt on my neighbor's door. Then I come in and take all his books. Then I read them, and bring them back.

I wonder if this could be deemed admissible evidence by the proper law enforcement folks. [face_thinking]

I do the same, except I never find the time to read them, and I bring them back three weeks later when they're due.

I use mine to access OED online. It is glorious.

Soooo jealous. Only universities have free OED access here. Everyone else has to pay a zillion dollars a month or whatever it is.

South Plainfield Free Public Library, after years as a more-or-less independent library, linked up again with the Libraries of Middlesex Automation Consortium (LMxAC). Our cards are now fully recognized by pretty much every other library in Middlesex County. We also have a reciprocal agreement with libraries in neighboring Union County. Through the state, we've ordered books from clear across the country. They all come in via a courer service, though some titles come in through the mail. And we're just a small town library.

Oh, and I mainly work in Technical Processing, though I do frequently work Circulation. I've never bundled up a book to send to another country, though. Not yet, anyway.

I'm a Sam Cogley disciple; real books over e-books. Besides, real books still work when the power goes out.

Paul Krugman is on Twitter right now saying how liking ebooks makes him feel older because now younger folks actually prefer paper editions. [face_rofl]

They don't offer online renewals? I know in some library systems that's an option.

For us, local residents have to renew their cards every three years. Out-of-town patrons have to renew every year. No charge.
