I usually browse the boards with an old tablet that struggles mightily with video-heavy pages, so in pure self-interest, I will post my contributions as links instead of embeds. There is a similar topic in the JCC that I occasionally post in. I might as well copy my contributions from there:
The original Sonic the Hedgehog from 1991 has a very memorable soundtrack. Green Hill Zone is by now etched in stone as both a classic of the Sonic series and the medium as a whole. Some other notable themes are Marble Zone and the Final Zone / Facing Dr. Eggman themes.
And here's a redone version of Green Hill Zone, done for Sonic Generations. It still sounds classic and keeps quite close to the original, but with a clearer, more refined sound; freed from the constraints of the Mega Drive's sound chip.
The updates to this theme from Sonic Mania are also sublimely done:
Act 2's music is an imaginative deviation from the source, but a nice and respectable addition nonetheless.
I think my favorite music from any of the Sonic games (at least those that I've played) was from Wing Fortess Zone of Sonic 2. It's like an anthem.
The games with the greatest soundtracks I’ve played are definitely The Witcher 3, Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3. They’re like top quality film soundtracks. They just add so much to the games to make them even more of a masterpiece than they already are.
An example from each game:
Those Witcher tracks are great! I really should play that before Cyberpunk 2077
Oh, great, you found another thread to shotgun blast with whatever comes to your mind in the moment!
You really should. It’s an absolute masterpiece. It drags you into its fantasy world and takes over your real life.
I still remember playing through Mass Effect for the first time and hearing this track on Ilos...
...and being instantly reminded of this track from Donkey Kong Country 3.
Another track from Uncharted 2 that I'd like to mention. I dunno about anyone else who's played any of the games, but the most memorable piece of music from the entire Uncharted series was that creepy loud horn noise that played in the Himalayas where those Yetis were. It was especially intense in the ice caves.
The whole track is great, but 1:45 is where the creepy part is.
Just missed the edit window!
But I just have to add Nate's theme. Another great track from the series. I need to stop listening to the Uncharted soundtracks or I'll end up playing the whole series again. They're putting me in the mood for treasure hunting!
To make the most of my double post, how about this legendary series' soundtrack? Crash Bandicoot! Oh, the memories...
The similarities of that Mass Effect Ilos music and Donkey Kong are way closer than I expected.
Probably my favorite Mass Effect series ambient music is on Mars in ME3. I'll go months without listening to it and begin humming it out of nowhere. Particularly the part starting at 1:20.
I recently came across this new cover of Medivo from Jazz Jackrabbit. It's the best version I have heard.
Man @Jordan1Kenobi , I didn't even really play Crash back in the day and those themes hit me in the nostalgic feels. Speaking of nostalgic PS1 feels, the menu music from 3Xtreme just sent me on an emotional joyride through childhood memories playing this game with my little sister. Even had to text her about it just now.
Music is cool. Video games are cool. <3

Gotta post some Assassin's Creed, here's my faves from each one:
Just a gloriously epic rendition of Jerusalem's theme, for when horse riding across the Holy Land isn't awesome enough.
A main theme so good they made it the official theme of the series in 2014.
A variation of the main theme with a really great build when the combat layer kicks in.
Another great main theme, slightly eery while also being starkly beautiful.
Doing two for this one, since it's got such a great long soundtrack. The first is just so fast paced and exciting, whilst the second is perfect ambience for the setting.
A very soothing piece, perfect for the restful hideout theme.
ACIV: Black Flag:
Who can ignore the breathtaking final rendition of the Parting Glass?
A very different musical style to the base game, but there's such a joyous tone to this track, alongside a wonderful fusion of French and African stylings.
Perfect for the frigid atmosphere of the North Atlantic. Sounds very otherworldly at times too.
A very lighthearted track before the fall for Unity, combining piano and techno fluidly.
A lovely remix of classical song Abide with Me (which is also used in Doctor Who Season 3 Episode Gridlock ).
A piano rendition of Earth, perfect for Anastasia's theme.
Sets up the surreal tone of the movie straight away, before dovetailing into an action piece (Yeah, it's technically not a game ).
A nice blend of the old and new, combining Origin's theme with Earth, feeling both like it fits into Ancient Egypt and the modern day.
Origins is a great game, but the thing that probably surprised me most was how noticeably great the music is.
Yeah, the soundtrack for Origins stood out more than any other Assassin’s Creed game for me. The desert sounding music that’s heard a lot in adventure films really set the mood.
