****. It's been ten years since I had leg surgery and I can't do that.

 

The bone is totally healed, so my doctor wants me to walk on and use it, as much as possible (as much as I can tolerate, basically), to avoid scar tissue. I mean, I live relatively close to the grocery store. I didn't take a ten mile bike ride, or anything. I'm not going to push it too far. The last thing I need is another injury, but it's nice to be able to use it this soon after surgery. I just have to be smart about it.

Last night was the night from hell. On Saturday, my foot swelled up to twice its normal size, and I've been unable to get the swelling to go down. Before the procedure, the doctor told me that there would be risk of clotting, so I was worried. I lost my phone recently, so I had no way to call the doctor. My son is on a camping trip with my dad, so I've been here alone. I decided to get on my bike and ride to a payphone so I could call an ambulance. When the ambulance arrived, I realized that I forgot to bring my bike lock (I'm was pretty heavily medicated), and they didn't want to swing by my place so I could drop it off, so we brought it with us. After about four hours and a bunch of tests (ultrasound, bloodwork, etc), it was determined that I do not have a clot, but I am in the beginning stages of a skin infection. I was prescribed an antibiotic and released--by this time, it's 4am, and I have nobody to call for a ride. The nurse googled directions for me, which involved riding my bike down a highway with a bum leg. She gave me an alternate route, and I tried it.... and ended up on some path in a barren field--not at all a safe situation. Then I tried to make my way back to the hospital, took a wrong turn, and got lost. After falling off my bike twice and riding around in complete frustration, I finally made my way back to the hospital. I called the police, and a nice officer came and picked me up and gave me a ride home. So here I am.... still haven't slept. I probably should, here soon.

What an incredibly ****ty night. Glad you made it back safe but, isn't there a way to get a cheap replacement phone at Walmart or a landline?

You should probably consider getting a cheap prepaid phone to have around, just in case of emergencies.

lol... keep in mind, I've been pretty foggy these past few days... I'm not functioning at my usual capacity. This is why my son is with my dad... to give me time to recover.

Anyway... I'm long overdue for sleep so goodnight/morning.

If they knew you were that heavily medicated and didn't have a ride home, why the heck didn't they keep you overnight?
