Cool news! I thoroughly enjoyed TFA, so I'm optimistic about this.

Based on what we got in TFA, I feel certain now that Ep9 will be a well-paced, fun movie with some great characters and performances.
I do hope JJ feels more free to be original this time around, though. I understand why he and Kasdan borrowed heavily from the OT in TFA, but now that the ST has its own footing, he shouldn't feel that need again.

A script from the man who gave us Starkiller Base, and the man who gave us the "iconic" Martha scene in Batman V Superman.

I still prefer if they hired a woman to direct or write IX but of course it's better than Colin

I doubt it/hope not. I love the TFA, but definitely have my problems with the (generally overstated, but still) rehashed elements, too. But, some things we know for sure-- LFL has been paying close attention to the reactions to each movie, JJ himself has pointed out that he knows the movie is somewhat derided for hewing too close to ANH, and TLJ is apparently pushing things in new directions.

So hopefully, they don't go down that path again.

At the very least, this one will be visually appealing and entertaining and maybe that's the most important thing since TLJ is supposed to do the heavy lifting of the trilogy.

SW movies have typically been movies that are straight-forward and don't require much thinking, though, so that's why JJ's a good fit for them (and I don't mean that as an insult to either JJ or SW.)

Sounds good to me. Let him wrap up the story he started and left hanging.

"Never had to think too much during a JJ film."

JJ created one of the most challenging sequences in a SW film. Rey's forceback.

This has forced arguably more thinking and speculation than any other scene in the Saga.

Not to mention people have been thinking about who Rey is non-stop since TFA.

So it's objectively false that JJ doesn't make people think. In fact, that's the main complaint about him from lazy viewers. JJ's mystery box makes me think too much!

The producer of some of the biggest blockbusters in the past 30 years is done because she chose a director you personally don't like? Please.

And Lucas still isn't getting death threats and complaints about the Prequels?

Maybe the original concept for IX wasn't hopeful/satisfying enough in tone for a finale?

“[‘The Force Awakens’] was a bridge and a kind of reminder; the audience needed to be reminded what ‘Star Wars’ is, but it needed to be established with something familiar, with a sense of where we are going to new lands, which is very much what 8 and 9 do. The weird thing about that movie is that it had been so long since the last one. Obviously the prequels had existed in between and we wanted to, sort of, reclaim the story. So we very consciously — and I know it is derided for this — we very consciously tried to borrow familiar beats so the rest of the movie could hang on something that we knew was ‘Star Wars.'”

I don't think JJ even had anything to do with that finale, did he? Pretty sure he was done with the show fairly early on... Could be mistaken, though.

I would disagree that SW doesn't require any thinking.
I acknowledged your point. Why can't you just take the fact that I admitted I made a mistake and move on instead of continuing to bash me?

And JJ's mystery boxes aren't "thinking." He himself admitted he didn't even know what the ultimate resolution would be - it's just mystery for the sake of mystery. There's no deeper meaning there, so what is the point in even thinking about it?

Star Wars is too heralded to play with. Lucas created Darth Vader, all death threats are null and void on his end.
