The SDSWS would like to invite you to go on our next Damn Fool Idealistic Crusade:

The San Diego Star Wars Society plans to go on another Damn fool idealistic crusade to the location where the Jabba's Sail Barge Scene was filmed back in 1982. Two of our members were actually present during the filming of the movie, and at least one of them will be present to lead us to the exact location. The trip will be on November 8th-9th! The trip is roughly a two hour drive from San Diego. We will meet at 7:15 am at the view area in Alpine off of the 8 freeway at 7:15am, and then caravan from that point. We will stop at the Denny's on Imperial Avenue in El Centro for Breakfast, and then caravan the rest of the way out to the Imperial Dunes. The Imperial Dunes are located 14 miles West of the Arizona Border (in California). It costs $10 per vehicle to park at the Dunes for the weekend. In order to drive onto the dunes themselves, you will need to have 4-wheel drive. If your car isn't 4 wheel drive, there are other vehicles going that are so you can catch a ride out to the dunes. Many of us will be camping overnight, or if you would rather, you could go just for Saturday, or just for Sunday. There are restrooms in the camp area, yet you will have to bring your own bottled water, or sodas/drinks/snacks/food. Bring metal detectors if you have one, shovels, tents and other camping gear if you plan on staying overnight, coleman stoves, chairs, bring warm clothing for night and plenty of layers. Bring snacks and smores to cook over the campfire at night, wood for the fire, and cell phones and FRS so we can communicate during the trip. The closest eating places are 14 miles away in Yuma Arizona. More specific directions will be posted closer to the time of the trip. I will be inviting other fanforce chapters to join us for this trip.

Over the course of the two days during our last trip we found numerous items from the set including:

    - two latex pieces from the Sarlaac Pit, one which had the cut-out shape of where one of the Sarlaacs teeth were
    - A plank from the Sail Barge
    - A piece of wooden Railing from the sail barge
    - A wooden piece with metalic silver paint from the front of the sail barge
    - A wooden piece with greenish paint from the side of the sail barge.
    - numerous nails from the sail barge, some hinges, chain link fence ties, etc.
    - We found numerous yellow insulative type material which was used to make the sarlacc pit. Several pieces still had the sarlaac colored paint on them.
    - We also found sandbags used on the set to hold down their equipment during the frequent sand storms in the area
    - We also found numerous pieces of "sand dune colored wood" from the set. During filming, the crew would create "fake dunes" covering their film equipment in case the camera panned that direction.

Please post HERE if you plan to attend, or need more information.

I don't know if I'll be able to go, just because it's 2 hours away from San Diego, and San Diego is 4 hours away. That's a lot of hours.
