I'm offended that Thompson is even attempting to compare himself to the great Jonathan Swift.

This is what I mean: he does have a decent point, but it's so obscured by all the wacky media stunts and attention grabbing and general insanity that you can't even see it.

 

I think the high point recently is the PA donation in Jack Thompson's name...

I totally agree. Jack Thompson does have a point, but he's hurting his case more and more with these insane stunts. They give everyone else who fights for this cause a bad name.

Dammit didn't even notice until this morning....the boards were acting up last night. Didn't even come out right, but the sentiment is still the same.

 

I don't think there's anything special about him - the media needed to fill some space, here's some guy who'll be happy to talk to them and spread a bunch of rightious bull. It'll annoy people and get them to tune in and want to put him in his place. There was that lady who was so anti-bush a few weeks (months?) ago, there's Fred Phelps with GodHatesFags.com, GodHatesSwedens.com, etc etc

The only downside to the media is that we're giving the jackoff more of a voice than he deserves - and people, when confronted with opinion A and B, usually assume the correct answer is a mixture of the two - it's lazy thinking, and by giving people extreist A views, we're allowing ourselves to be swayed into a more "averaged" view of "protecting the children!!! omg!!!" and "free speech". If the people who scream "Protect the Children" focused their efforts into activies that actually helped children, rather than sheltering them, the world would be a better place.

Well, let's see. Gamers have some cool people, like me and Morgan Webb, and a lot of hopeless nerds who'll never see the inside of a woman's pants, like almost every other gamer in the universe -- who all basically deserve what they get. Homosexuals have lesbian porn and Big Gay Al to their credit. Fred Phelps is hurting more worthwhile people, but Jack Thompson has far, far more publicity behind him, so it evens out. They're about the same.

By the way, the American Bar Association is considering de-barring Wacko Jacko.
