They geniunely believe that she's going to wake up. The longer this drags out the worse it's going to be on them when there finally is no other alternatives to avoiding removing her from life support, but honestly, I can't necessarily fault the family with wanting to keep this 13 year old alive, even when all medical opinions are that she's gone.

Ehhhh, a lot of people go through this sort of thing, and most of them have the presence of mind to not unnecessarily take up medical resources and pull the plug.

all we need to do is slap the face of the mom repeatedly until she comes to her senses. i nominate darth guy for the job. darth guy, just remember to stop short of the stage where she begins to re-lose her senses.

you know, maybe if darth guy just slapped the little girl enough times, she would un-brain die. i'd like you try this out first, darth guy, and if it doesn't work, go with the prior plan.

Would it be too insensitive to say it's time to start doling her out for spare parts?

Come on, guys. This is probably someone driven irrational by their grief, compounded with an initial gap in understanding. A gap which the events leading to this situation have left the hospital with little credibility in trying to close it. Could we at least redirect the mockery more towards the courts and the opportunistic politicians that are (presumably) en route to make this into some sort of cause celebre? Why are we singling out the people who are undoubtedly most traumatized in particular and probably least equipped with the background to weigh these sorts of things in the abstract?

She had the tonsillectomy on Dec. 9 and went into cardiac arrest not long there after. She's been on life support ever since.

Okay, then I agree with everyone else. I first thought this happened like yesterday or something and was horrified by the cynicism. :p

Normally I'd take umbrage with how insensitive (and poorly constructed his opening post was) Rogue_Ten is being about this, but I agree with him. Once you're brain dead, there ain't no coming back from that.

    http://www.nbcnews.com/health/pregnant-woman-kept-alive-against-familys-wishes-texas-2D11792149

I got to ask, what about in this situation? Should the state honor her wishes? And do you think despite the fact she told her family before she got pregnant that she didn't want to be on life support, Do you think she her being pregnant changed her mind? Even though she told no one her wishes.
