51 is young, unless you're morbidly obese. Guess you can't say he didn't live.

I never watched The Sopranos, so I'll always chiefly remember him for his turn in Crimson Tide.

(He doesn't do much in this particular scene, but oh well. Though I do love the tentative sip of coffee at the end)

Reading the entire thread, there really are some absolutely naive, worthless, unfunny ****s on here.

I just read this and can't believe it. JG wasn't that old. Rip Tony Soprano.

The Sopranos is definitely one of my top 5 favorite TV shows ever. Very iconic.

Also worth noting was James G.'s small but powerful role in the film True Romance - his monologue in the hotel room was nothing short of brilliant.

Definitely. In the Loop is fantastic and he's really good in it. This news hit my work pretty hard. It's shocking and yet it's not. Sad.

Because most people don't consider death as a good fodder for constant regurgitation on the internet? (eg, some people have taste)

Wow, that was a shock. The guy was a whale. It's amazing he even lived this long.

But he had a good run. @};-

Start at 4:31. The JCC embedding feature doesn't accept the direct link.

    Stunning news.

I thought his best film performance was in Where the Wild Things Are.

May sound odd, but I really have not been this sad about a "celebrity" passing since Bernie Mac a few years ago. Just enjoyed both of their work, I suppose.

True Romance was awesome, but I never watched the Sapranos thing. I never thought of him as anything super great as an actor, just ok. Media sure is blowing it up though.

Perhaps you should watch The Sopranos before accusing the media of 'blowing it up'.

The Sopranos is magnificent. And largely due to Mr. Gandolfini's portrayal of Tony as a loveable bastard. Watch it.

It's not a stretch to say that Tony Soprano, and the show The Sopranos, engineered much of the modern era of television as derived through cable versus network.
