1. A Message For Everyone:

TCW vs. Rebels debates are not allowed in the Television forum. As in, discussions that descend into TCW/Rebels bashing/gushing will be subject to Mod action. Contrasting the themes, story lines, characters, etc. between the shows is allowed (welcomed, even). "Versus" debates/arguments, however, are a deal-breaker.

Yeah, I had thought about it more after making that post, though had to go to work and couldn't follow up right away. But you're right and I agree with everything you've just said.

I can totally understand why Fett fans would be steamed about that, but yeah Almec is corrupt and we all know that Jango is more than a guy who just so happens to have armor.

Nothing in TCW explicitly contradicts Jango Fett as a True Mandalorian.

The New Mandalorians and Kyr'tsad (Death Watch), on the other hand, cannot be counted as True Mando'ade, however.

Would a True Mandalorian go down like this?*

    Ori'buyce, kih'kovid!

*Yeah, yeah, Jango also got decapitated by a Jedi, but at least it was Mace kriffing Windu!

Not that I mean to sound so crass, but catch me on the wrong day with that osik, and I'm liable to vomit.

    But I digress.

They were wiped out by the Death Watch, so I guess they could.

Sure, but they weren't wiped out by Death Watch directly. While it's true that Kyr'tsad alor Tor Vizsla slew Jaster Mereel in a bloody coup, the True Mandalorians weren't eliminated until after the Battle of Galidraan, when Vizsla used treachery to orchestrate a lethal confrontation between Jango Fett's Mandalorians and the Jedi led by Dooku. So technically, you can't give Death Watch all the credit.

Besides, Jango Fett is a True Mandalorian simply because of his ability to slay Jedi in hand-to-hand combat. If that ain't badass, I don't know what is.

He's not someone who was born on Mandalore.

But if you think of "Mandalorian" as a cultural thing, rather than "what planet you come from"- especially since many of the planets near Mandalore were part of the old Mandalorian empire, and will retain many Mandalorian cultural influences- he's about as Mandalorian as it gets- even being elected "The Mandalore" by a faction of Mandalorians.

During the Mandalorian Wars, many species were forced to become Mandalorians.

Right. Being Mandalorian hasn't been about where you were born for quite a while now.

If Jango was raised by Mandalorians, why doesn't he have a Mandalorian accent?

Probably many different types of Mandalorians with different access, just like there are many types of Earthlings with different accents.

On the Season 2 BRD there's a featurette where Dave Filoni claims that the idea of Jango Fett not being Mandalorian came directly from Lucas. I suppose this means that Jango really wasn't Mandalorian.

    :oops:Seriously?

Well, as others have already mentioned, Jango wasn't born on Mandalore, so perhaps Lucas simply regards Jango the same way as Almec; maybe he doesn't consider him Mandalorian insofar as he was born on Concord Dawn rather than on Mandalore. But knowing Lucas' regard for the Mandalorian continuity, particularly Traviss' works...

Anyhow, as @Iron_lord stated, Jango is about as Mandalorian as it gets, having been personally raised up by True Mandalorian Jaster Mereel and eventually becoming accepted as Mand'alor.

Yes, you may easily verify this yourself--I imagine the same featurette (about the Mandalorians) is on the DVD as well.
