Jango Fett Room Alarm - did yours work?

To make a real long story short - I have had an eye out for the Jango Room Alarm for awhile. Have never seen it over here in the UK, not even in Forbidden Planet (London). So today I was at one of our other offices and there is a Toys-R-Us near it. They actually had a few on the shelf so I bought one. Got home, put the 3 AAA batteries in it, and - Nothing! Tested the batteries in the VCR remote - they work fine. To hit the obvious questions - yes, they were in the right way, and - yes, I was following the instructions as far as the switch position goes. The figure did not look like it had been opened or damaged. Obviously I am going to return it (on Friday as I have to be back over at the same office). But I thought I would ask - was there a known defect with these or did I just get unlucky?
