Well, another meeting has come and gone... We had a *great* turnout! I was glad to see so many familiar faces and a few new ones as well! Here are the topics that were discussed at the meeting.

    - Vader Around the World: The MDFF has Vader right now and will be taking their picture this weekend. We have scheduled our picture for February 1st at 1pm (and Mutt had better be there because he is delivering Vader!). We are meeting by the Washington Monument, on the side facing the reflecting pool. (Kam mentioned something about being in costume, so I don't think it will be hard to miss the group...) We would love to have as many people as possible for the picture, so hopefully everyone will be there!

    - TCG Tournament: February 1st will also be the day for the Crazy Old Wizard's tournament at WOTC. Time and details to be announced later on in the Jedi Temple thread.

    - Dues: Dues for this meeting were $2. From now on, they will be $1 per meeting. *Mandatory Dues Disclaimer* Dues are NOT required, they are completely optional. The money is used for expenses such as postage for mailing Vader. It is also used to get small birthday gifts for our the members that contribute. TK got her gift Saturday and was appreciative! :)

    - Member drive: We are hoping to get some new members in the next month. Some of us are going to various conventions on the weekend of February 14th (Farpoint and Katsucon). We will be bringing flyers to each and hopefully recruit some unsuspecting SW fans to join in on the madness! :)

    - February meeting: The date/time/place are still undetermined, but it looks like the weekend of the 22/23 is a good bet. As for location, we are trying to have it at a public place this time around. Reasons for the public location are a) newcomers might feel uncomfortable going to someone's house and b) our group is starting to get too large for someone's house! So far, location options include the library from October's meeting (good place, but not Metro accessible) and the Crystal City food court (metro accessible and supposedly dead on the weekends). Eugenia will be checking on the food court option.

    - Conventions: As mentioned before, some of us are hitting Farpoint and Katsucon (Feb 14-16). Other upcoming conventions are I-Con (March 28-30, Long Island NY), Shore Leave (July 11-13) and the big enchilada, DragonCon (Aug 29-Sep 1). DragonCon is still a long way off, but el cheapo registration ($45 for the whole weekend) ends Feb. 14. Just an FYI. :)

I think that was it for official topics... I'm sure someone will correct me if I missed something.

After the meeting, it was on to Family Feud which was quite fun. The Skywalkers narrowly beat out the Solos to move on to the bonus round. However, the force wasn't with the Skywalkers as they lost the bonus round, therefore missing out on extra Kisses from the host (which might be a good thing from a certain point of view). :) Afterwards we ate, watched R2-D2 Behind the Dome (very funny) and ANH (just because).

Again, thanks to Ken and Eugenia for hosting the shin-dig!

Okay for the Lord of the RIngs fans (Ken, I and someone else) who were discussing Celeborn (pron. Keleborn) at the party, and argueing on whether he went to Valinor or not, TheOneRing.Net has the following bio listed for Celeborn:

    Aliases: Teleporno
    Date of Birth: FA
    Race: Sindarin Elf
    Height: Tall, (6 feet?)
    Date of Death: N/A
    Alignment: Good
    Parents: ?
    Spouse: Galadriel
    Date of Marriage: FA
    Children: Celebrian

    Physical description: Tall and lordly.

Biography: Celeborn wed Galadriel in Doriath, and fled with her to Arvernien after Doriath's fall. Near the beginning of the Second age, Celeborn and Galadriel settled in Lorien, where for many years, Celeborn ruled as Lord of the Galadrim. During the War of the Ring, Celeborn led the army of Lorien that took Dol Guldur. After the War of the Ring, Celeborn tarried in Middle Earth for a while, but without Galadriel he grew bored, and eventually sailed to be with her.

Since I haven't read the Silmarillion, I don't know where they got the info that he left. Check it out here

P.S. If his alias was teleporno, does that mean he created phone sex lines in Middle Earth?

Update: in the Prologue to the Lord of the Rings the last line reads: "It is said that Celebornwent to dwell there after the departure of Galadriel; but there is no record of the day when at last he sought the Grey Havens, and with him went the last living memory of the Elder Days in Middle Earth."

So eventually he does get lonely and runs for the Havens, but no one knows when.

    1. Excellent summary! Another note about DragonCon - if you want to stay in the Marriot or Hyatt (the host hotels), you should make hotel reservations now. There's plenty of hotels (many less costly) nearby, so if you don't care where you stay, you can wait.

    2. While the Solos lost due to screwy Family Feud scoring policies, the Kisses still ended up staying with us. Bwahahahaha!

    3. Being the founder of phone sex explains a lot about Celeborn and how those Lorien elves made money.

I'm reposting my suggestion that I originally posted in the Jan meeting thread.

Basically, I'm promoting the idea of holding some meetings on the National Mall towards the summer when the weather is better.
I feel its a good idea because its a public place to encourage new members, there's loads of space to fit our expanding membership (they had 1 million people for 4th July last year, so I *think* we could squeeze the GS in there ;) ). Oh, and we might pick up a few members who are on the Mall anyways (or get tourists to check their own FF in their home areas).

It also allows us to do some outside activities, perhaps a Skywalker vs Solo softball game, or a friendly game of soccer.
For the LotR fans we could have a dwarf tossing contest. All we'd need was a dwarf, or in the absense of these Middle Earth dwellers, a small child will do :D .

Of course we'll have to have a BBQ and picnic !!!!!!

I think we could plan something for our April or May meeting.

p.s. on a side note, I'll be out of the country for the last weekend in Feb, so I'd be unable to attend a meeting on that day. Please don't let that be an issue on choosing a date for the next meeting, and pick a date that suits the majority of the GS.

Malkie, a meeting on the mall sounds like a fun idea. Especially since we are the *DC* fanforce, I guess we should meet in DC every now and then. ;)
