DTM has announced the release of a new OPT, the R-22 Spearhead, which is a prototype of the design that would become known as the A-wing. The release thread on the XWA Upgrade forums has a render of the model (must be a registered user of the XWA Upgrade forums to view). You may download it from MTD Industries.

According to Troy Dangerfield's X-Wing Editors page, the full version of his AlliED X-Wing Alliance mission editor is now freeware. Perhaps this will encourage people to make more custom missions for XWA. :D

For those of you who have tried the XWAVI beta, there is now a fix for the mission.lst file...simply head over to this thread and follow Master Qui-Gon's instructions.

Berruga's Acclamator Troop Transport, included with Vince Trageton's Battle of Coruscant shipset, now has its own page and can be downloaded separately from the shipset from MTD Industries. The announcement thread on the XWA Upgrade forums has a render of the model. (Note: You may want to copy that link's location, access the forums through the XWA Upgrade homepage, login {or register if you're not already a forum member}, then paste the link into your browser's address bar.)

The release of Marco Antonio Malheiros' "upgraded" Skipray Blastboat OPT has been announced at the XWA Upgrade Project. The news item on the front page currently contains a render of the new model. For now, the OPT can be downloaded from Darksaber's X-Wing Station (at least until we can get Forceflow to update the XWA Upgrade site).

A user known as Markus has announced on the LucasForums that he has created an MSI installer package for XWA that is compatible with Windows 2000 Professional and later, and Windows Installer 3.1 and later. While 32-bit versions of Windows can use this new installer, it is primarily meant for users of the 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Download the new installer from Markus' site. Note: This is only an installer and does not include any game files; therefore, you will still need an XWA CD.

General Trageton has updated the "Battle Over Coruscant" shipset to version 1.2. Some of the new features and fixes, described in full in this thread (must be a registered member of the XWA Upgrade forums to view), include the official inclusion of the Valiant-class Republic Cruiser, as well as additional radio messages.

Speaking of the Valiant-class cruiser, that has also been updated. The ship is now able to use its warhead batteries, thanks to a fix by OOM-911. Download either the full shipset or the Valiant separately at Vince T's X-Wing HQ.

So is the "Battle Over Coruscant" just a bunch of ships, or is there also a mission in there too? And do people still play this game? I miss playing it, I may have to re-install it when I get home from Iraq.

There's a mission in there too, Slapnutz...basically a recreation of the Ep. 3 space battle. :)

Well then, I'll be downloading that when I get home! Can't wait to play SWA again!

Master Qui-Gon and Darksaber have updated the cockpits for the Firespray Attack Ship. The cockpit you see will now depend on the flight group color, as follows:

Red: Slave I and Boba Fett
Gold: Azzameen Andrasta with a white and blue Mandalorian*
Blue: Slave I and Jango Fett
Green: Gray Firespray and white and gold Mandalorian

Download the cockpit update from Darksaber's X-Wing Station

*The cockpit team regrets that it's impossible to include both a Fett model and a more human one to represent the Azzameen family member.

L.D. Khatgar has released an improved 1.2 version of his "upgraded" Razor Fighter OPT. The news item on the XWA Upgrade Project homepage contains a render of the model and a link to the forum post about the OPT, which has the download link (I'd copy the forum link, log into the forums, and then paste the link into your browser's address bar, as only registered users can view the forums). There may be more improvements to this OPT in the future, as well. :)

The XWA Upgrade Project celebrated Labor Day with the release of DTM's beautiful YT-2400 Outrider OPT. There are a few renders in the news item on the homepage above, plus more in the forum announcement (viewable by registered members), including in-game shots. The OPT also contains a cockpit, enabling you to fly it in skirmishes and custom missions.

Download the Outrider either from the XWA Upgrade Project or from DTM's site.

As Blue Squadron's last official contribution to the site, a new XWA skirmish created by Paul "Rogue" Sweet, "Defend the Rebel Platform," is now available on the "Flight Deck" of the CRS Morning Star site. Many thanks to Kyle "Gnoizic" Mandal (Red 10) for acting as the test pilot for this skirmish. Note: the skirmish will require Darksaber's Ultimate Craft Pack for best effect.

    Consider this a surprise...

DTM has announced the release of the "upgraded" Nebulon-B2 Frigate (AKA the Nebulon-B Mk. 2). A screenshot has been posted on the XWA Upgrade Project front page and there's a link to the release thread in the news item if you want to leave comments. For now, you may download the Neb-B2 from DTM's site, and it should be available for download soon from the XWA Upgrade Project site itself.

The XWA Upgrade Project has started updating the Mon Calamari cruisers, beginning with the Defiance-class Medium Cruiser. The model was done by JM (he of the XWA Expansion Guide) with textures by DTM. The news item on the XWA Upgrade Project's front page (see above) has a couple of screens, plus a temporary link to Darksaber's installer.

Lots of news from the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade Project today...

First, JM and DTM have released the Liberty-class (winged) Mon Calamari Cruiser. The news item has the usual screens. Follow the forums link in the menu to discuss the new OPT (thread will be found in the "XWA Upgrade" forum).

Also, the following recently-released OPTs have finally been added to the XWA Upgrade Project download page:

    T-wing
    Escort Shuttle (new version)
    Carrack Cruiser
    Nebulon-B Frigate
    Gun Platform v2 (new version)

Also, the problem with downloading several older OPTs (such as the Missile Boat) has been fixed, so downloading anything on the page should now work w/o having to keep refreshing.

The XWA Upgrade Project this morning released what should be the last of the "upgrades" of the Mon Cal cruisers, the Reef Home. As usual, the front-page news item has a couple of renders and a link to the discussion thread about the OPT in the forums (must be a registered user of the forums to view). Follow the "Download" link in the menu to download JM and DTM's latest work.

Also, the Medium Mon Cal cruiser (Defiance) has been updated with a new hangar, and the updated OPT can also be downloaded from the XWA Upgrade Project.

Work on DTM's Clone Wars shipset and campaign appears to have picked back up, as Berruga has released a new Droid Bomber OPT. This thread on the XWA Upgrade Forums has plenty of screenshots for your viewing pleasure (these are new forums, BTW). If you can't wait for the shipset, the OPT can be downloaded from MTD Industries.

The XWA Upgrade Project's site has recently been updated with a new progress page and a new download page (which changes the views of the OPTs each time it is loaded), but a more substantive minor update has been included: the Warheads XMOD has been updated to the most recent version, which now includes the Space Bomb, thereby completing your destructive arsenal.

    Enjoy!

I'd love to play, but XWA is completely incompatible with the Nvidia 8800 series GPU chipsets I'm running on.

    Is it ?

Because I've got an 8600 GT and had no bigger problems this far ...

The 8600 and 8400 GPUs are fine. The 8800 series fails to render certain textures such as the target box and occasionally laser fire.
