God, how can anyone like this movie?

 

Yeah, well, that's just like your opinion, man.

 

That's one of those movies that's amazingly quotable even if I don't like it, like Napoleon Dynamite, Pulp Fiction, and Top Gun.

 

I mean, say what you want about the tenets of Dudeism, but at least it’s an ethos.

 

I mean, yeah, anytime you criticize that movie, you basically hand every fan in the world a golden platter on which to present that quote. And, much as I dislike the movie as a cinematic experience, I have used quotes from it. "Shut the **** up, Donny" definitely gained some extra cachet after Trump got elected.

 

I definitely wouldn't call it the best Coen bros. movie, but it's the most fun, edging out Raising Arizona for the win.

 

It's a film that requires (well, maybe not) more viewings to fully appreciate it. The first time I saw it was by myself, and I was rather indifferent towards it. I then saw it with a group, back in college, and I remember enjoying it a lot more.

Barton Fink is still their best comedy work.

 

Well duh.

That is a great movie. Really great performances from the young girls in it.

 

Would you believe I forgot that it was a Coen brothers movie? I guess it was a real disappointment to me after The Hudsucker Proxy and Fargo. I thought they'd up their game and didn't expect them to fall back on a contrived small-time story. But having forgotten that it was a Coen brothers movie, I recognize and appreciate its cultural impact. That's funny.

 

Did it get dubbed for the US like Mad Max 2?
