I just finished The Defenders of the Dead, and I have a question about it.

Why is there a Bith statue on the front? Is the cover supposed to be showing one of the halls of evidence or just one of the underground tunnels? It seemed like the population on Melida/Daan was all human. So, why the Bith?

Because the artist wanted to put something in that looked mysterious and was easy to access reference material for?

Because a Bith was the first out-sider to visit Melida/Daan.
