Is there a special ceremony when a jedi is appointed to the Jedi Council? Thanks to anyone that can help.

There is, now, in the New Jedi Order. There was a ceremony put together by Luke Skywalker in "Destiny's Way." It's towards the end of the book.

I don't recall ever seeing anything describing a ceremony in the Prequel era.

It describes it in great detail. It's towards the end of the book.

I think that it involves a 12" 2X4, a case of Wild Turkey, an eggbeater, a traffic cone, a tube of superglue, and a Yoda action figure, but I could be wrong...

We see a glimpse of a Jedi Council induction from the prequel era (one not created by a politician like Cal Omas in the NJO) at the end of "The One Below: Yaddle's Tale" in one of the issues of SW Tales, and we get to see a promotion ceremony from Padawn to Knight, and Knight to Master (Aayla and Quinlan, respectively) at the end of Rite of Passage, the last story arc before the ongoing title was renamed "Star Wars: Republic" recently.
