Jedi Order Emblem vs. Legacy Era Emblem

I've been doing a lot of looking about on Wookieepedia, and I've found a question I can't seem to find the answer to.
I've noticed that the symbol shown to be the emblem of the old Jedi Order seems to be the same symbol that they use for the Legacy Era books and stuff like that. Here's the image in question: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Jedi_Order?file=Jedi_symbol.svg

I've thought about getting a tattoo of that symbol, but now that I seem to have found a conflict in its meaning, I thought I should clear it up first.
