FPS work great on console as well and I prefer an analog to a mouse, even consoles have a mouse that can be used as well. Personally I like having my graphic intensive programs on a console because you don't have that lock up problem and you can have it on a larger screen. I only play strategy games on my PC if I have an option nowadays.

    To Ye11a:

    - Are you trying to tell me that you get more control out of a ps2 controller than a a fine mouse and keyboard?

...wasn't that obvious? Yes, I do. Sue me.

    - There is no device that comes even close to the mouse, especially not for FPS. If you played an FPS with a ps2 controller against a computer oponent using a mouse and keyboard....guess who I would put my money on? The guy with the mouse and the keyboard.

I'll take that bet any time! Ohhh...watch me side-step without using the Shift key, ooohhhh! Scary, huh?

    - THe reason why you think its better is because for 'consoles' they ahve special aiming (have you ever played goldeneye etc)
doesnt have precise aiming...it moves it around because there cannot be as precise control.

I've never played Goldeneye, no. But you go play MGS2 for ten minutes and then come tell me that the first-person shooting in it wasn't VERY precise?!

    - you must be a really new FPS player who hasnt played quake, quake2, quake3, or even the earlier betas of counter-strike...

I'm so stupid, I thought Quake was out on PS2, my mistake...I've played Counterstrike for years, chump, and that particular game makes me ACHE for a gamepad, because its so stupid using a keyboard, with a gamepad you can feel all the buttons at the same time without moving your hand, you don't have to use two fingers to run either, or move your hand everytime you have to change weapons. Keyboards are lame, obsolete. And a mouse is no different from using the analog stick of a gamepad....sorry I have to flame YOU

    - what are you smoking....

    Camels, filtered.

    - and referring to people who are 'dying' to get ps2 type controller for the computer..i dont doubt you, but it is DEFINETELY...DEFINETELY not for a first person shooter.

Ah, but it is, my friend. And maybe someday you'll have the chance to play a FPS on a PC with a gamepad and your hands will tremble at the kind of freedom you've only felt when your parents were out of town and you raided your dad's closet to find porn!

    I rest my case.

    Here's a thought.

Some people like mouse & keyboard. Others like a gamepad. Whatever you prefer is best for YOU.

    Leave it at that.

-I'll take that bet any time! Ohhh...watch me side-step without using the Shift key, ooohhhh! Scary, huh?

I think your talking about doom...you ***** retard because thats the only game that has the control setup like that. If you EVER played any recent FPS on default keys you would know that it uses the traditional (WASD) combination of W= forward, s = backward, a = strafe left, d = strafe right. You have fully independent control of keys right in your area. unless I'm chatting (when I am dead in counter-strike, there is no need for me to move my hands at all from my wasd position. Not to mention in that vicinity ill have something like 25 keys in the area that is in the WASD position) Not to mention on my mouse I have a scrollbar (ooh guess what it switches weapons without having to press 1-0 (the way you had to in doom) and then I have 5 buttons total on my mouse (microsoft intellimouse). Coupled to the fact that I can actually talk to people.

-I'm so stupid, I thought Quake was out on PS2, my mistake...I've played Counterstrike for years, chump, and that particular game makes me ACHE for a gamepad, because its so stupid using a keyboard, with a gamepad you can feel all the buttons at the same time without moving your hand, you don't have to use two fingers to run either, or move your hand everytime you have to change weapons. Keyboards are lame, obsolete.

Okay buddy...calm down there no need to get all excited. Tell me then, please if 'keyboards' are obsolete why they have keyboards for consoles. Not to mention Ive seen a wasd - mouse combination peripheral for x-box which tries to emulate the feel of a keyboard and a mouse.

as for using shift to strafe...what type of ****** keys do you use moron? Have you ever seen the auto-run feature you can turn on in halflife? You use shift to walk. AND AND AND AND the key thing is...I never said that the gamepad sucks. I like the gamepad. I truly think it works well in all other games albeit the first person shooter. If im playing a fighting game, I would most definetely want to use a gamepad rather than the keyboard. But, you cannot deny that, although you may like the gamepad better than the keyboard mouse (which, for QUAKE1, 2, which was released for ps1, and ps2 and quake 3 for ps2 I believe) guess what man...their ports...from the PC where people use the wasd-mouse combo. The only game that requires you to use shift are the really old games like wolfenstein 3d and doom, where the mouse wasnt used often because that was during the days of oldwindows or dos (win3.1 or 95)

-And a mouse is no different from using the analog stick of a gamepad....sorry I have to flame YOU

really? Since when have analog sticks stayed in the position that they were put in without having your thumb there? A mouse, you move and you can keep it there without pressure on your mouse pushing it in the direction.

    -Camels, filtered.
really? Maybe you ought to quit because cigarretes are bad for your health. The surgeon general says so on the box. You must look really ugly....and be really dirty smoking cigarettes like that. tsk tsk

-Ah, but it is, my friend. And maybe someday you'll have the chance to play a FPS on a PC with a gamepad and your hands will tremble at the kind of freedom you've only felt when your parents were out of town and you raided your dad's closet to find porn!

No....I dont think so, your analogy is flawed. I think the example your giving refers to you, when you found goat porn in your dads drawer.

Have a nice day, I must conclude by saying that your points were invalid, your refutations stupid, and your comments cliche ex: Yes, I do. Sue me, ooohhhh! Scary, huh?

This leads me to believe that your nothing but a lame ass hippy who smokes all day and does nothing but live off the government. You are a loser.

And you, sir, are banned. Read the Terms of Service, then read this forums FAQ, then in a weeks time send in an unban request. Utterly inappropriate post.

This is a rent for me. Why?

    No Online
    No Mods
Reduced the size of levels(NGC and Xbox)
    4 player Splitscreen only
No use of either hardware(straight PC port).
    replay value = 3 out of 10

IMO the developer(not lucasarts)is really lazy.

Reasons for getting JO on Xbox.

    1. Not willing to buy a new computer to play JO on it.
    2. Not willing to buy new components to upgrade my computer.
    3. Assuming I do update my computer, I'll screw it up and have to buy a new computer.
    4. I'm Lazy.
    5. being able to play JO on my 70" HDTV with Dolby reclining in my vibrating lazy-boy beats playing it on my 19" computer screen.

For multiplayer FPS games, its usually more fun when your friends are right there in the room having fun with ya, so I'm looking forward to grabbing this for GCN when it comes out. I also prefer FPS games with a controller. Don't like having to take my eyes off the action to figure out where the key I'm supposed to hit is.

For online play and mod stuff, I'll grab the mac port which comes out around the same time I believe.

Yeah, but the console version only supports two player split screen! Not four player split screen, but two! What were they thinking?

If it's like the PC version, hit the same button you use to equip the saber.

After reading the TF.N review, I'm curious as to what is the controller setup for the GCN version vs. the X-Box version? It's rare that one hears praise for the XB controller's face button layout (usually the best thing you can say about it is that it's good for people with big hands due to it's size), especially when compared to the GCN's controller which has more overall possible buttons (6 faces 2 triggers on XB, 4 faces 5 triggers on GCN).

The triggers on the Gamecube, from my point of view, are difficult to play with for JO. And combined with the unusual face button layout, playing JO can be a little more difficult. The Gamecube controller just wasn't built with fps games in mind.

And although the original Xbox controller is a giant (it works well for me, and my hands are far from big), the Controller-S, an updated and much better button layout, works perfectly for all fps.

Simply put, I enjoyed the Xbox control layout better then the Gamecube, but that's not to say someone else will like it the other way around.

Same exact thing I thought, R_B_E. Any chance of me buying the Xbox version went out the door when I saw that. I guess I'll have to continue to play the good ol' PC version.

    >> And although the original Xbox controller is a giant (it works well for me, and my hands are far from big), the Controller-S, an updated and much better button layout, works perfectly for all fps<<

Don't get me wrong- I have no problem with large controllers (N64, Madcatz DC controller, etc). I also agree that the S-controller is much better, but I still feel there are problems with it (by comparison, I feel the same about the madcatz DC controller as well- but even that was an imporovement over the standard DC controller). Also, while I feel the GCN controller has the best feel and layout (shy the Z button) of the controllers out there, I agree it could have used an extra face button or two...a third "kidney" button would have been good.

I used to always run the old Dark Forces games through a joystick anyway, so I'm certainly not feeling put out by the lack of a mouse/keyboard combination on the X-Box port of JO. IMHO it handles beautifully with the gamepad.

And what a great game! I haven't seen much discussion of the game itself here, mainly just the controller issue. Perhaps I'm one of the few who didn't buy this for PC when it came out, and the game itself is old hat for the rest of you, but I'm blown away by this thing! Right up there with Halo as a FPS for X-Box IMHO... I'm fascinated by all the various environments they created for each level. I just finished up Nar Shaddaa and must say that I was impressed as hell with the whole series of levels. It's gotta be a great game when I don't mind getting killed and having to re-fight a few enemies to get back to the same point.

The saber is damned satisfying too, though I almost wish they'd taken the one truly solid aspect of the Obi Wan game and kept it here... using the right thumb controller for the saber. But the left thumbstick/right trigger combo seems to work fine. Gotta love lopping off an arm on some skeevy bounty hunter who's pointing a disrupter at your melon! I'm looking forward to encountering some saber-wielding enemies soon too.

Easily one of the best games I've bought for my X-Box. Right up there with Halo and Morrowind, IMHO.
