The captain was growing tired of the issue at hand. "Continue with that tone, and I will take it as insubordination. As for the voice, I cannot fight it. I cannot fight your battle with the Darkness for you." The voice was oddly calm, laced with an eerie amount of level-headed serenity to it.

Dinn opened her mouth to retort, but thought the better of it and just stayed silent. The voices surged, almost yelling at her now, but she shut them out, along with everything else around her. She focussed on the wires and tried to steady her breathing.

...we are not Darkness...we are just the absence of light... the voices promised.

Dinn began chanting 'shutupshutupshutup' under her breath...

Hangar

The grey eyes that hid in Lance's head were glowing a fevered red. "Miss Tsalisz, get up. We're having that talk now."

No, I am having the conversation. [Skye's voice rang from the hangar doors. He stood there, arms crossed, leaning to one side, with a cold stare]

Captain McCallister, Lieutenant Tsalisz, Attention.

[Skye looked at his two officers who looked a little guilty]

Now, what's this about? Don't lie to me, I want the truth.

 

IC: Capt. Soltaris

Hangar

Lance looked at Skye with a scowl. "With all due respect, sir, this is a personal affair. You have no right to intrude."

As Skye approached, and as Dinn crawled out from under the ship, the voices receded, giving Dinn time to return to her normal self. She stared out at the hangar. She heard Lance speak but seemed to be in a daze, not really hearing him. There was only a heartbeat between when he finished and she began..

"Sir, I believe my actions on the Revenger of Tatooine are being punished and who or what it is that wants to punish me can be seen by the Captain." her voice lacked all the intensity of before, and it seemed that she was listening to someone else speak, like she was being prompted. "I know nothing else."

Hangar

Lance maintained his position. "As I said, sir, this is a personal affair. Leave us be to deal with it." The look on his face was unmistakeable rage. "Fail to do so, and I will jail you for violation of rights of privacy."

Excuse me Captain, but as your commander, I have the right to discipline officers acting in such a manner.

Now, frankly I won't get into your business. Like you said, it's a private manner. However, you will conduct yourselves like officers.

Now I don't know about you, but if you want to vent your frustrations at each other, there are two Preventer armor suits that have been beat up in the last mission. I believe they are your two. Continue arguing in the Preventer staging room while you are fixing up and cleaning your suits.

Dismissed.

[Skye spun on his heel and headed away from the two officers to sit down on a bench. Then he held his head between his knees and tried not to be sick.]

Being the boss is harder than I ever thought.

After ensuring all fighters had landed and doing a last circuit around both ships Scout landed his fighter back on the Stryke.

"Scout to bridge, inform the general all fighters are present and ac****ed for, I'll be on my way to the bridge have all status reports standing by. Scout out."

 

Dinn didn't wait. She merely dumped her tools in an offhand way, grabbed her jacket and walked to the turbolift.

She waited patiently for Lance to join her. She had almost turned back to lead him through the madness of the deck, but thought better of it. After what I've just said to him...he'll probably just want me to leave him alone for a while.

...a long while...

"Shut up." she hissed and slammed her hand against the turbolift callbutton.

Stryke

Lance scowled at the team CO, a snarl of rage fleeing from him. Why in the God-****ed Hell do I have to deal with his attitude every ******* time something gets messed up!? The thought was something that he willingly left open, only to let the CO get a small glimpse of the ticking time-bomb that assumed the role of Preventer 3.

His route to the meeting room was horribly empty in the loneliness. How he wished she were by his side...

He arrived, not sure what he'd find as he neared the final corner, but hoping he'd find her.

*lank doffed his helmet and climbed downt he egrers ladder. Tweeter, being lowered down by a magwinch, shrilled at him*


Not now. *pulls his pocket comm* Pavail to bridge. We need to hold a debreifing as soon as possible*

And find out just when people around here decided slaughter was an option... *His Force senses picked up a great deal of anger and grief. Once more, he closed himself away from the Force, but that did nothing for his own feelings*

Sithspawn, now what do we do without the CHancellor?

Jim Palso merely waited, watching the stars in space. He wanted to forget about the mission today.

 

OOC: whoops, way missed a tag.

[Skye looks up to see his wife standing at the ship, pouting a little and rubbing her belly]

Earwen? Finally you are here. [sees her eyes on the verge of tears] What's wrong?

[in barely a whisper] I've been here

What? [color drains from his face] Oh love, I'm so sorry. I was so drained I missed you. How could I have missed you?

[whispers again] I was standing right here. Watching you take Knight's body away. Watching you with Lance and Dinn. I've been standing here

[hugs his wife tightly, then rubs her pregnant belly] I am so sorry to make you wait here. With Knight and the fight and... [looks at the floor] Sorry.

[Earwen lifts Skye's chin and stares him in the eye] You are the Vice Chancellor, I understand your duties are more. Just try to remember your family

You are the most important thing to me. [kisses his wife] Yet I have one more duty, not as your CO, but as your husband. [smiles] I think it's time for your physical with D'Nari regarding the twins

I was hoping you forgot about that

[chuckles] I could make it an order, Commander.

[Earwen laughs and jabs Skye in the arm, then wraps herself around it so he could escort her] Well, can't leave the doctor waiting.

 

*Earwen hated that all her emotion was so near the surface. Under normal conditions, she would have been able to hide her frustrations. And now it was time to be put under a microscope.*

"Oh joy. Do you think she'll give me sweets if I'm a good girl?"

*Earwen said, tickling Skye's side with her hand before letting it rest on his arm.*

[laughs] but sweets would ruin your lovely figure [gets a big jab for that one]

okay okay... if the doctor doesn't give you sweets, I'll find a way to reward you.

Still, you have to go see her. With our genetics, we should make sure they are healthy.

"With our genetics, they are going to turn out to be extremely unique. It's pretty much unheard of for a Melmeolalaithians to bear the child of someone not of our planet. I am not sure how are genes will react. I suppose it is best that I see D'Nari, but I am not sure how much she will be able to do. Not that I doubt her medical skills. It's just that the twins are bound to be unusual..."

*Earwen trailed off as they approached the med bay.*

Shasa had watched the preventers meetings.

Standing from her quiet corner she pushed her grief back and took a deep breath.

I hope a shower makes me feel better. she muttered to herself.

Cristal returned to the medbay, seeing that thankfully there was nothing for her really to do. All the medical officers seemed to have everything in control.

She decided then to take a few moments for herself and changed into green scrubs and put on a medical lab coat. She sat on her usual seat with another datapad she had gotten from the library. "Hmm, the Empire. Interesting."

Outside the Stryke:

*A large New Republic shuttle moved slowly toward the Stryke's Hangar Bay door.*

Stryke, This is General Wedge Antilles requesting permission to land in order to pick up our pilots that used your fighters. I would also like to extend my personal farewell to Lissa Rosqu...

*On the Bridge of the Outcast vessel, Lissa Rosqu was speaking with Prelate Zeratual as the Communications officer relayed the message. She nodded her permission and turned back to the holocom.*

Prelate Zeratual; I'm so sorry this has happened. I know I wasn't with the Outcasts very long, but I deeply respected Knight. The galaxy will be poorer because of his loss. It...hurts.

*Lissa tried to control the waver in her voice.*

Yes. S-so much pain - and Darkness. I didn't realize what was happening until it was gone. D-did you feel...

Yes. It was like a bad taste in my mouth - even through my shields. *His eyes widened.* That's why you...

I don't really know for sure. I need to talk to D'nari, our CMO. She's a Jedi Healer...and I must meet with the high ranking officers. *She shook her head.* There's so much...

*The Bridge doors opened and Wedge Antilles, accompanied by two Security Guards, entered and came forward to stand by Lissa's chair. Despite the seriousness of the situation, he couldn't contain a slight smile.*

Zer! I thought it was you when you came alongside. *His smile vanished.* I wish we had time to talk.

So do I, General Antilles, but I sense a bit of hostile feeling emenating from your ship.

*Wedge grimmaced.*

You're right. It seems that Intel invited themselves along for the ride without informing me. I think they were after General Lightrider...but, barring that, they might decide they need to talk to you. You know how they are - paranoid to the extreme. They're busy with prisoners right now but that won't last very long. You'd better get going before they notice you again.

*Zeratual snorted - then heaved a heavy sigh.*

You're right, of course. We'll meet again, Wedge. *he turned his eyes back to Lissa* I wish you and the Outcasts all the best. Stay strong - you will recover from this. *He sighed again.* I wish I had the time to talk to Lannik Banner; I felt very bad at leaving him behind. I thought he was onboard...

I'll let him know, I promise.

Then it is Farewell. Wedge, Lissa, May the Force Be With You.

*The holocom went blank and Lissa and Wedge moved toward the viewport in time to see the great ship turn away and build up its speed for the hyperspace jump. In moments it was out of sight. Wedge wrapped a gentle hand around Lissa's upper arm.*

Are you going to be okay? Do you know what happened? Tell me..

That's just it...I don't know. It was like a darkness... a cloud that changed everything...

*It was hard for Lissa to describe what had happened, why she had ordered the conflagration of fire on the obviously dead Star Destroyer. But she tried. Wedge listened but could only shake his head.*

I wish I knew what to tell you - how to help you...

D'nari will know something...

*After a moment of silent thinking, Wedge held up his own comlink.*

The guys want to say goodbye...

*Lissa took the comlink, held it close and kept her voice low as she talked to her old friends.*

I'm glad we got to see you, Lis. I just wish it had all ended better...yes, I'll give your love to Winter - and know that she sends hers. I love you, too, sis.

I only got to pull your braids once...it isn't fair... You take care of yourself, Lis, and...blow me a kiss once in a while. Okay?

You'll do fine, Lis. You just hang on to what you know and keep on learning what you don't...a

 

*Lank joined the others in the Chancellor's office. Once more, he had to struggle to keep his emotions in check when Knight's final orders were played*

Lis in charge? *Lank's confusion gave way to a small smile* She's up for it.

*Lank pocketed the datacard, then leaned over the chair while Lissa sat*

Lissa...the Dark Side can be very powerful and seductive. With so much happening at once, you, and the others, did what most beings would have: you acted on your anger and pain. Maybe it was training under Kyle, maybe it's because of my abilities fading and closing myself off after Knight...*cleared his throat*

Lis, I'm not dissapointed in you. I'd be dissapointed if you didn't learn from this. Now you know how easy it can be. *squeezes her shoulders* You write the letter, I'll be right here for you.

[Skye suspected the news that Knight's final message brought to the team. He didn't expect the rank of Vice Chancellor though, but he showed no emotion to the ranking. His wife was a little depressed with hearing Knight's voice]

I know love, it is hard to remember Knight's voice. However, we must carry on. [hugs her close] Now, let's get that examination done.

D'Nari, if you are not immediately busy, will you accompany us to the medbay? My wife needs to have that physical examination.

[D'Nari simply nodded and follwed the Lightrider couple into the turbolift. Small talk occured in the turbolift before they got to the medbay. The three then went into a small private examination room, Earwen sitting on the examination table and Skye leaning against the wall.]

Okay doctor, she's all yours.

ooc: I don't know if I'm allowed to keep posting in here, due to the impending closure, but I'm kinda restless and bored and this is good way to relieve some of that

IC: Preventer readyroom

Dinn found Lance as she had expected. Alone and waiting for her. She didn't pause to start a conversation though and moved past him to grab her armour. It was covered in...Dinn didn't want to think about it exactly. She merely grabbed some cleaning equipment and sat down.

The silence festered in her, making her nervous. But finally she looked up at into the deadened eyes of her fiance and spoke.

"You can see who it is...can't you...the one who is speaking to me?" she asked simply, in a far away voice.

Preventer Staging Room

Lance interrupted his awkward cleaning efforts for a second. "Yes," he said softly, tears starting to roll slowly down his face. "I wish I couldn't, for he is a beast to be feared. Fight him, with all your soul."

Slowly, the captain resumed his work of cleaning his dirty armor. So much blood...

"When we finish, we can talk more of this. I want you to know, though, that I'm worried, and I do care about you."

*D'nari motioned Earwen to lay down on the exam table and moved to the side of the table. She placed her palm gently on her abdomen and closed her eyes.*

You might feel a little strange, Earwen, but no harm shall come to you or the children...

*She went into trance and sent her senses outward and into Earwen's body. She first examined Earwen herself, looking for any problems that could harm either her or the fetuses. Her blood pressure was a little high, but she figured that was attributed to the strain of the Chancellor's death. Nothing a little rest wouldn't cure... She definately needed some more vitamins...

She then turned her attention to the children, who were 'watching' her with great curiosity. She introduced herself to them with images of what she was and what she was doing. They sent happy feelings to her and let her in. The children were in excellent health. Something unusual caught her attention, though. It wasn't dangerous, but interesting. She finished her exam, said goodbye to the children and promised to come back soon. She pulled herself out of the trance and opened her eyes. She could barely contain her smile.*

Earwen, you are in almost perfect health. All you need to do is rest for a little while and take in some extra vitamins. I sensed no physical problem with your body type and you should be able to deliver them with no problem.

The children themselves are remarkable. One boy, one girl. They are both Force-Sensitive and have budding abilities like Skye's. I predict that the girl will probably be stronger in the Force and the boy in Spirit, but both have both abilities to the extent that they will be rather useful. I see no abnormalities in their physiology.

Now for the bad news. You, Earwen Lightrider, are grounded until at least one month after the birth. You should have been grounded as soon as you knew - if not by a medic, then by yourself. You have about three months left in gestation as twins are usually born about a month early and I see no reason why they should not follow the norm.

In the coming weeks, you will start to feel slight pains akin to labor. If they grow in frequency, duration or intensity, you are to call me immediately. If you experience bleeding, extreme dizzyness or nausia - call me. I expect you to report to this office every three weeks until you begin your eighth month, at such time, you will then come in every week. I personally don't think anything will go wrong, but if you or Skye are uncertain about anything, I'll help.
