I have an awesome PC to play JK2 mainly on, but I hang out at my friends house on the weekends and I keep my "LAN Gaming" PC over there. Would it run smoothly on it? I ask b/c Q3A, RTCW and MOHAA run a bit slow on my LAN computer...about like 60 FPS for Q3A MP and like 20-30 for RTCW and MOHAA SP/MP, which isn't bad for single player, but online its not all that great...I was thinking of upgrading the LAN computer with newer mobo, CPU and RAM...but for now, would I get any enjoyment on it with JK2?

    LAN GAMING PC:
-Antec Case Mid Tower 1 fan
-Tekram K7-KXA 200 MHz FSB Motherboard
    -750 MHz AMD Athlon CPU
    -256 MB PC133 RAM
    -Gainward GEFORCE2 Ti450 64 MB DDR(no TV)
-Sound Blaster Live! X-Gamer 5.1 Sound Card
    -1 Western Digital 40 GB 7200 RPM ATA100 HD
    -3com 10/100 NIC
    -TDK 8/4/32 CD-R/W Drive
    -Mitsumi 52x CD-ROM Drive
    -Maxtor UltraATA100 Controller
    -Generic MS IntelliMouse
    -Generic Keyboard
-Speakers Altec Lansing 2 Piece Speaker Set
    -17" Monitor
-Road Runner Cable Modem, Behind a Dlink router.
    -Windows 2000 SP2

Just for kicks, here is my normal PC specs, which I don't think I'll have problems with:

    Normal PC:
-Antec SOHO Case with 3 fans
-Asus A7V266 266 MHz FSB Motherboard
    -1.4 GHz AMD Thunderbird CPU
    -768 MB DDR RAM
-Gainward GEFORCE3 64 MB DDR VIVO & DVI
-Sound Card Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum EX
    -2 Western Digital 40 GB 7200 RPM ATA100 HD's
    -3com 10/100 NIC
    -CD-R/W Sony (Black)
    -Sony 52x CD-ROM Drive (Black)
-Generic 12/24 GIG SCSI Tape Drive
    -Tekram SCSI Card
-Logitech Cordless Freedom Optical Mouse/Keyboard Combination
-Altec Lansing 4.1 4-Piece Speaker Set
    -17" Monitor
-Road Runner Cable Modem, behind a Linksys Router/Firewall
    -Windows 2000 SP2

Quick word to anyone looking to change the basic configs of the game.

DO NOT CHANGE THE SHADOWS MODE TO VOLUMETRIC SHADOWS.

Kind of ironic considering my nick.

What happens if you do change to VOLUMETRIC SHADOWS?

You get to watch a slideshow.
    Game runs at .5 fps.

    At least on my system.

Can anyone think of a good-looking 3d card to play this with for less than $150. I.E. Geforce 4 just came out for 400 bucks. Would a 3 or 2 be better looking on JK2 than a tnt2?

I played "Elite Force" on my brother's TNT2 based system. It looked fine - and it's a very similar game to Jedi Outcast graphically and in its engine.

So before you get too panicky about upgrading, give "Jedi Outcast" a good test out. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah. I'd try an EF demo or the JKII game first, to see if it's really bad. If it isn't up to your standards, then I'd personally go for the Geforce3 Ti200 if your system runs it, like I said in the other thread.

Elite Force demo. It uses basically the same engine as JKII, so however it runs in Elite Force, JKII should run in a similar manner. Read more about the demo and get links to download it right here.

So RTCW and Q3 run well... I'm all set? Should I check EF just to be sure? How then can I purge my comp of evil trekiness?

Hehe. If they run the way you want them to then you're fine. RTCW gets a slightly choppier framerate on my PC than Elite Force anyway.

    Ok, I have:

    PII 350 MHz system
    64 MB ram
    more than enough hd space
    soundblaster 16
8 MB Creative Labs Voodo 2 Video Accel Card

I can play QuakeIII Arena and even Elite Force on my computer.

You think my computer can handle me running Outcast, especially with only a 8mb vid card?

And yeah, I am buying a new computer in the summer, I just want to know if I can play it a bit now. And, is it worth it to run it on a lower end machine such as mine? Or should I wait?

Once again, if EF runs on your computer, JKII will be fine as well.

It will run, but not beautifully. Try the Elite Force demo I posted above to see if it runs well enough for you.
