Uh, so I don't know if this was brought up...but we were criticizing them for going on this dangerous trip while she was pregnant. Okay, that's bad enough...but why have two three more kids while in captivity?

You know what, we’ve all vented our theories, opinions, etc. Maybe it’s time to just offer them our thoughts and best wishes as wishes as they try to recover from the hell they’ve been through and close the thread for good.

 

I saw on BBC news a couple of days ago that they'd been freed.

Will be keeping them in my thoughts in the days and weeks ahead as they attempt to come to terms with everything that has happened to them.

And... Should they return to the JC I hope everyone will be kind. or perhaps slightly less nasty than usual?

 

Who knew birth control would be difficult to come by when you're in a hole in the ground in captivity in Afghanistan?

The intel is a little muddled but the murder of the daughter may have been a forced abortion.

 

This is one of the worst threads the mods allowed go for the sake of that idiotic excuse "venting" or "we're just having a laugh but we don't really mean it".

 

I worry that Boyle's statement was issued without the help of a qualified PR agent. They will need better representation if they want to optimize the movie deal. It's like they haven't even read Trump's book.

On the radio news this morning, I heard him reading part of his statement. To me, he sounded about as good as we could expect, probably still in shock/disbelief, but holding it together.

 

Yeah this latest piece of information, about their daughter, is devastating.

I don't think we can assume it was a forced abortion. It seems clear she was killed because she was a girl, since three sons survive. And I doubt the Haqqanis were giving them ultrasounds or any prenatal care at all. Plus Josh said "my infant daughter."

 

I thought the two month old was also a girl? So two girls and two boys, but one of the girls was murdered?

As if this story wasn't devastating enough, but this last few pieces of news are heartbreaking. And, like, I get that backpacking through Afghanistan with your pregnant wife isn't the smartest thing to do, but it's not like he would have done this if he thought a possible outcome was "we'll get kidnapped for five years, and Caity will get raped and give birth to four children, one of who will be killed."

Was it a naive decision, absolutely. Was it a cruel one, no. I'm sure they've regretted that decision a million times, they don't need us to make sure they know it was dumb.
