This is a good thing... with it being covered like this, hopefully it'll lead to their release.

Indeed. I could tell it was her by the facial features, but she looks VERY gaunt as does Josh. One also has to wonder about the status of their child in light of their condition having deteriorated so much, their bodies have clearly been in starvation mode at some point, you would think that the possibility of a child being there would spur the government into getting this resolved sooner rather than later.

 

The fact it's now big news could spur the government, their health and baby have little to do with it.

 

Just because they lost a lot of weight doesn't mean they're starving. But yeah, they look pale and unhealthy nonetheless.

 

She had some health condition that needed frequent treatment. I'm hoping she's alright.

Yeah they are not starving. They are likely eating a diet that's just stripped of fats, sugars and excess carbohydrates. It may look worse because both were firmly overweight before but they're not starving.

No. Starvation is a lack of nutrition brought on by little or no food and the body having to feed upon itself (fats and muscle tissue) to survive, thus resulting in the very gaunt appearance. Just because they don't look like famine or concentration camp victims doesn't mean that they are NOT starving. This is common in situations of prolonged captivity and is part of the reason why Bowe Bergdahl is currently hospitalized instead of just being released to his family and eating whatever the hell he wants.

Obesity is no longer a choice for them.

Again, hopefully, all this media coverage leads to their release/rescue.

 

I don't know, I think the backlash about Bergdahl is going to make it less likely.

 

First, these two were civilians, so it's an entirely different situation.

Second, the US military doesn't plan its rescue operations based on how the media spreads a story. If there are civilian lives on the line they're often in and out without the mainstream media knowing/caring. In all likelihood they have no clue where these two are, or have an idea but know it's too dangerous to do anything atm.

 

Yeah, but considering how Obama has played into the GOP's hands (and even alienating members of his own party) with the way the Bergdahl exchange was handled, they and a good chunk of Congress might get in the way of any exchange or rescue operation as part of their political pissing contest.
