Someone really liked The Dark Knight's PR campaign.

Are they trying to trick non ST fans into seeing the movie?

I know, I was also surprised to see what looked like a Wocky spree not be done by Wocky too!

Is that Kirk in the poster?

Looks like those who predicted the 'Into Darkness' would be emphasised under the Star Trek title ala. the posters for past films were on the money.

    Kirk? Fairly certain that's Benedict.

And yeah, I mean I figured Into Darkness was really basically the title. But I just wish they'd add a colon is all.

I thought it might be Cumberbatch as well, but the hair struck me as more like Pine's.

That's most definitely Benedict, he's in the coat he was wearing on the set.

I find it quite interesting that the first poster they choose to release is a) of the villain and b) looks like it has nothing at all to do with Star Trek. Explosions, London, Cumberbatch? Change the coak and this would be a Sherlock poster.

Very Transformers, Dark Knight feeling poster.

Don't like it all that much. Title is still terrible and is in dangerous need of a colon.

Huh. I was trying to figure out the shape and it kind of forms the Starfleet symbol. Neat.

The words "Star Trek" are so iconic that it's almost impossible to notice how dumb they are put together, an unwieldy yet catchy way of saying "space journey." But when you attempt to form a complete thought out of the words, as in Star trek into darkness, it really calls out the underlying silliness. A trek into darkness sounds interesting--spelunking is fun--but a star trek into darkness just sounds redundant. We already know there's a lot of darkness between stars.

If it's an attempt to evoke The Dark Knight: A Moody Film with the Word 'Dark' in the Title--Get It?, which seems obvious given the poster art, then I respect it even less.

It worked the last time didn't it? :p

The title blows and the poster doesn't look like Star Trek at all. I don't know....I guess I'm not digging the next generation of ST (based on what we've seen so far at least).

The good news for Star Trek fans is that the original cast and Next Generation movies set the bar so low that it made it almost impossible for J.J. Abrams to fail.

I'm really glad I'm not the only one who is seeing this. The thing is it's like the villainous pose from the Bane poster:

and the motif from the crumbling building teaser:

Got together and stole the colour scheme from the Joker's TDK poster

To produce one mega-poster for an entirely different movie.

That ST2 poster sums up what is wrong with Hollywood perfectly.[face_plain]
Or that the lowest common denominator is their focus audience.

Actually, Chewgumma, Cumberbatch's pose is almost exactly that of the one from TDK where The Joker has his back to the camera.

Yeah the poster feels derivative - and doesn't feel anything like Star Trek. Which makes me sad. Good that Benedict is centre stage. It's clearly him. That at least bodes well.

You'll note how the crumbling buildings kind of make the Star Trek Insignia.

Or Mass Effect 3's (you can glimpse the London Eye and St. Paul's dome list amidst the futuristic buildings). I sure hope tri-colored, no-win-scenario choices will NOT rear their heads at the film's climax. :([face_sick]

It's a shame they're almost hiding the fact that this is a Star Trek movie though.

I wonder, did Cumberbatch Falcon Punch a building to get it to make that Starfleet Delta-shield insignia shape?

I like it, but just saying.....

I think if they were trying to hide that this is a Star Trek movie they'd have gone full Dark Knight and removed Star Trek from the title completely. With the trailer around the corner I'm willing to chalk this down to just being a poor PR campaign so far.

no you're not. dont lie. you might throw a hissy-fit before during and afterwards, but you're going to watch it. and that's why they get away with it everytime
