I'm sure it's been said before, but I've been away for some time, and I'm certainly not going to read the entire thread but.....BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH!
They should include Yeoman Janice Rand in one of these films. Just one. She'll be mysteriously absent in all subsequent sequels.
She actually did have cameo appearances in ST4 and ST6 (with her guest appearance on an episode of Voyager being centered around the latter), if that's what you're referring to...
Terminally ill fan who was too sick to see the 9-minute IMAX preview got to see a rough cut of the entire film.
And in ST3; she was the woman shaking her head in disapproval when the Enterprise arrived at the space dock.
Not uncommon. Pixar brought a dvd player to the room of a terminally ill girl so she could see UP before it was released & before she died. Having seen the trailers for Trek uh, whatever: JJATrek2... Where to even begin. The blonde girl screaming looks too cheesy for even 1966. The rest... Nothing good is going to come of this.
Oh come on, The Devil in Dark had that ridiculous "Turn! Camera Zoom! SCREAMMM!" motif. With all the easter egg references in the last film, I'd think it's a pretty safe bet that the horror scream in the trailer is a direct homage to TDITD's similar awfulness.
If there's one good thing about the new Trek franchise it's that it's given Karl Urban a more upscale and respectable home than most of the other movies he's been living in since LOTR. Priest. Dredd. And Soon the Darkness. Those are the kinds of movies I'd wish on Ashton Kutcher, maybe, but not Urban.
It's very derivative and low rent, a pastiche of story elements from other movies. Makes Taken 2 look like an action masterpiece. But I do like Urban. He was one of the best things about the last Star Trek movie.
The new Dredd was absolutely fantastic- one of the best genre movies last year (I'd rank only Avengers and Cabin in the Woods above it). It may have bombed at the box office but it's certainly something for Urban to be proud of. Now, Priest? THAT was horrible (ironically, the best elements of that movie were the ones that evoked the original Judge Dredd movie, heh).
He passed away on Jan 4th. Nice thing JJ Abrams did. http://blog.zap2it.com/pop2it/2013/...way-after-seeing-star-trek-into-darkness.html
