Titan AE was great!
Oh great. So his fandom is based on watching the same 9 minutes over and over again.
Man, just gotta say there are some real arrogant backsides around here. I cannot believe some of you people. I am so sorry that you would throw an entire lifetime of fandom away over a detail like this. Give it a chance. (yes it's probably gonna suck) but does it really MATTER!? These movies have ALL sucked, in a way. They are SPACE OPERA'S! 82 pages is pretty cool, though. Clearly people are have passion for this issue, but I have ALWAYS THOUGHT STAR WARS FANS were more down to earth than Star Trek fans! This is no better than them.. THEM!!
Hey! Some of us are both!
That was freakin awesome!!!
Just watched Trekkies, most are like Star Wars fans.
Hilarious moments, 6:30, 39:11, 44.33
I understand now why they would be angry at JJ, but still I don't agree. But it was good to get their mindset.
I honestly think JJ is the right choice. At least he has been influenced by the franchise and he's not some money hungry whack job with no care for the universe. What the hey... I'll give him a shot and see what happens. I'm interested to see how this will turn out. I'm more worried about SW in the hands of Disney than I am about JJ directing the next three films...
Come 2015, I'm looking to be pleasantly surprised.
It would be rather unusual if there wasn't a rewrite. The director almost always has a considerable say in the final draft of a script, even if he isn't credited as a writer.
I'm convinced that a lot of you guys wouldn't be happy with anyone they hired. J.J. Abrams is a top talent right now, we have an Oscar winning writer and freaking Kathleen Kennedy producing. At least give the movie a shot before getting so down on it. I know a lot of people are worried about Disney but they have a good record letting companies remain autonomous and handling their own business. Besides its new freaking Star Wars!
Has anyone mentioned the lens flares?
Well there is always cuts then they have to figure out how to make A get to B cause the script didn't work. The director and the writer and whomever else redraft to make it more concise or easier to understand.
I was watching ANH today and I got goosebumps watching this.
Man, seeing all of those together, and knowing now that we can see another adventure of the old gang... It's like a dream come true, I think every one of us played at some time with star wars toys, imagining what our favorite heroes would be done after return of the jedi. I don't know if they are bringing the OT cast back, but IMO they have to. Yes, they are old, but so are we. Seeing them in the screen again one last time would help realise a lot of people that as we grew up, they grew up, and that it's so damn meaningful.
JJ I'm calling the inner fan in you, I'm sure he wants too.
"They're rewriting us."
"Not this script, sister."
BTW, he mentions the novels.
This blog entry is going to get re-quoted and re-posted a zillion times over the next decade.
This is a great find. Thanks.
Well that's too bad.
It certainly answers the question, though, that yes, he is aware of the EU.
He seems to be aware that novels exist, but it doesn't exactly sound like a ringing endorsement.
Still, this blog entry really sells me on JJ Abrams.
Fair enough, but I thought this was an interesting statement that at least acknowledges that SW is way more than 6 films.
Thus my disappointment.
Though if he knows about it and doesn't care about it, then that's a good thing.
I feel like we're discussing a presidential administration, and that JJ's term will be defined by the Abrams "Defined Focus" Doctrine.
Definitely gives me more confidence in him. Good luck, JJ!
You like Trek but not the SW EU? How odd..
