He wrote the screenplay for Armageddon. I thought everyone knew Bay directed that movie.

Obviously, it's Arndt who's writing Episode VII.

Abrams rebooted one movie franchise. One.

You'd think the guy was running around resetting time itself.

Clearly, there is a love/hate relationship about Abrams. I personally like his work. I loved Super 8 and thought Star Trek was an enjoyable movie. I think a Star Wars reboot is a good idea, in a way. The prequels followed the OT so closely that people couldn't help but compare them. Having something totally new would let the sequels stand on their own. I couldn't care less if it carries on the story of Luke, Han and Leia. A reboot almost guarantees the story will likely be about a whole new generation.

JJ is NOT rebooting Star Wars. This is a sequel, not a reboot. 1-6 still stand, and they aint going ANYWHERE.

Again, I'm not a "Lucas hater". Not one bit.

And this Abrams news is awesome. Love it. Not because he isn't Lucas. I love it because he is Abrams.

All Michael Bay films are awful because of Michael Bay. No one else is to blame for them.

I believe he enjoyed them about the same as us other real fans.

    Meaning, they are awesome.

Well he could always do both Trek and Star Wars at the same time. I can't even imagine how that would work. I am a huge fan of Trek and Star Wars, so I approve of the choice of directors. They must have offered him a $%^*load of money to change his mind.

Care to explain what a "real" fan is? I didn't care for the prequels, but I consider myself as much a "real" fan as you or anybody else.

In your opinion. I think he's a talentless hack. Can you give a reason he's awesome? As I know of none.

I can help explain, I'm not sure you'll get it, but it's worth a try:

Instead actually being creative and working in the confines of the Star Trek universe that ALREADY existed, Abrams took the easy way out and "erased" Star Trek history. Wow, real talent there. "I don't want to have to worry about continuity. I don't want to worry about any rules. I'll just do some time travel and start from scratch because I'm a talentless hack." To give J.J. a tiny bit of credit, there were writers involved, they share in the blame.

So I guess your an Abrams fan first, and maybe a Star Wars fan second (if one at all). For me I don't want MY Star Wars (the films I remember) rebooted and rewritten.

But everyone is entitled to their opinion..

This was done deal months ago. That whole thing of Abrams saying he wasn't doing it was just mischief.

Where in my post did I say he reboots numerous movies? I can't find it... I said I wouldn't mind if he DID do a Star Wars reboot.

    Lost was a good series.

Hate Star Trek's reboot or not, it got great reviews.

Exactly, he's not going to reboot Star Wars when there's still so much more opportunity available in the continuity of the story. Star Trek has been lumbering along since the 60's and so many of it's story arcs already explored, it was ripe for a reboot.

Star Wars is ridiculously far from a reboot, so sleep safe between your star wars bed sheets because it's not going to happen. Or at least not for another 20 years.

I think a lot of the hate I'm reading about Abrams has less to do with Abrams himself and more to do with the fact some fanboys are upset Lucas isn't directing. You can't please everyone.

    Basically me. LOL!!

I think what he was getting at is we love the "saga" unconditionally. I don't see the OT in a different light as the PT. All six movies gel together to form one story.

I know people get bent out of shape when "real fan" is used. I prefer to use the "volume fan" analogy: You like 3 out of 6 films. We like 6 out of 6 films. Mathematically we like 3 MORE SW films than you. It doesn't mean you are a bad person or anything, it just means we like more ST.

Yep. By far my least favorite Star Trek film. Honestly I'd rather see the original creative team of the Ewok Adventure get a crack at Episode VII before Abrams.
