ST John Boyega (Finn) in Episode VII

This is getting so off track. The whole thing started when you brought up the bait and switch angle (which yes was suggesting certain things about Finn were all misdirection) and I responded that if so it was one of the most ineffective examples of bait and switch that I can recall. That was the crux of our discussion.

 

Keep Skywalkers Anglo and Pure.

The funny part about this is that its literally nothing but racism. Han and Leias offspring should be (as far as movies about aliens and space wizards with wonky DNA are concerned) anglo. I've seen those original movies a few times and I'm almost certain luke skywalker never had a Significant other...unless his sister counts. In which case I agree, luke skywalkers incest baby should be 100% anglo...it only makes sense.

 

Finn can be a Skywalker family member, just not the offspring of Luke if it comes down to that.

Imagine a Calrissian whose charisma has been geared towards using the Force... is there even close to sufficient Force potential out there to cope with that much charm?

Finn can wield a light saber... AND?

Its a melee weapon ,sure you can cut your own limb off if you fumble but that's what Trainer Light sabers are for!

I'm surprised its taken that long to realise you don't need to be force sensitive to wield one of those just extremely lucky enough to learn how to wield one... didn't someone suggest Phasma might be a cyborg?

 

I'll remember to stick to expressing my dislike of characters based on skincolor. As opposed to fighting against it. Gotcha.

I don't have a problem with Finn being a Skywalker, though I personally think Rey is. I kinda have an issue with him being "of skywalker ancestry", which implies he's like a 3rd cousin, twice removed of Luke Skywalker, rather than an heir. There was nothing special about the Skywalker lineage until Anakin was begat by the force.

I don't want Finn to be a Skywalker. I would find that boring because everything seems to be so preordained when it comes to the Skywalkers as far as the writing is concerned. I don't think there is a chance in hell that Finn is a Skywalker. But I did get a chuckle at seeing someone post concerns about maintaining a certain level of bloodlines purity for this fictional family.

 

How can Finn possibly be a Skywalker??

I felt like the Skywalker story has already been told, and it was a beautiful tale at that. Continuity beyond the father & son dynamic seems a bit excessive, considering Star Wars story up until now was about Anakin's redemption. I was really hoping ep.7 would steer away from the Skywalkers & focus on telling a brand new lineage or something else, but no, seems like JJ is playing it safe with this one. I was hoping for a KOTOR 2 style approach in story; set many years in the future after ROTJ. I guess my expectations weren't reasonable from the get go. KOTOR 2 (imo) has to be one the best stories in Star Wars universe ever told and I highly doubt the new trilogy will even hold a candle to it in terms of story.

 

I don't think you can lay the blame at JJ on this issue. People above him made that decision.

 

Why is this even being discussed? We know Finn's not a Skywalker

 

I'm more or less expressing certain disappointments storyline wise than exhibiting blame.
